A mate of mine has got his hands on a Dell latitude D630 only snag is it has a bios password set i said i would have a look, i thought just disconnect cmos battery few mins sorted no chance lol, a little more reading i could short the atmel chip, paperclip method no chance not on the D630 but i have come across this for 30 notes so i know it is doable.

DELL MASTER PASSWORD 595B 2A7B 700m BIOS UNLOCK SERVICE on eBay (end time 23-Mar-10 16:08:32 GMT)

Any one know a way round this or had a similar situation, any input appreciated cheers.

these any use before you shell out good old cash

list of some std passwords

BIOS - Master, Setup and Boot Passwords

This is a dos program to calculate the master password based on the service tag number

Go into a DOS session (Start > Run > cmd)

Go to the directory with the LATITUDE.EXE program in it (size is only 5,467).

Type in latitude 12345 and hit enter. You have to substitute 12345 with your 5-character service tag number. The program then gives you the password.

or theres

CmosPwd - CGSecurity

that should keep you going for starters :proud:

How do Jackel, i did an acer aspire 2930 at the weekend and it worked by pulling the cmos battery.
https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/index.php?threads/231231/

I was told by a technician that the battery must be at minimum disconnected for 1 hour for it to work.

With the acer it was soldered onto the motherboard and he told me to just disconnect the positive terminal which i did by accident as i was full of cider.:proud:

A tried all the passwords i could find and none worked.
It was the missus old lappy and a had nothing to loose if a bricked it.
When a first powered it up i had nothing but a black screen so i took all the cards and hdd out and re seated them.
I put the ram in a different slot and tried again and it powered up and the lock was gone.

good luck..

The Dell D630 you need to use the paperclip method and it works. Have done a number of these.

its the 2E8C chip located on the motherboard. When i get home I will send you the Pinout.
I think it is pins 2 and 8 you short and that resets the BIOS password.

Your a legend mate appreciated.

Hi mate my bad, wrong Chip. Its the 24C02.

See the pics below.

Its not an easy job tho mate you need to strip up your laptop to the motherboard.

Hi devil is that defo for the dell d630 as have read somewhere that they did away with that bypass chip on the d630 ??.

@devil don't supose you have any info on the D620 m8, I've had it in my spares box for over a year n seems such a shame as it's a nice looking laptop.

I'm pretty sure the paperclip dosn't work from my last google, and haven't seen a Public PW generator for it but I live in hope, any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

No mate it wont, it will just damage the PCB.

Search google for "Dell BIOS password generator"...loads about.
Once you enter the password, dont press enter, press CTRL+ENTER.

Also, @theJackal, what processor does it have? If its the dual core...it wont work, if its centrino and less, then it will work. (sorry, should have said that earlier.)

Yes its centrino but does say duo underneath, i think i will have to get myself a magnifying glass for this one. also can you make any sense of the dos thing i have downloaded the file which just closes straight away may need to be windows 98 ??.

Getting nowhere fast with this one lol.

cheers Devil, I'm pretty sure the Public PW Generators out there don't solve the D620, I've have tried and I don't know If I can face another trawl @ the mo only to fight off spyware n viruses and then be be disapointed. lol

Right have you finished hijacking my thread now;)

@Heijira did you try any of the dos programs and can you shed any light on them.

Sorry m8 I couldn't resist LOL

I have spent far to much time trying to find a public software solution for the D620, If you are getting the Grey screen @ bootup you have no way of intercepting the bootup to allow booting from a CD or USB to even attempt using any dos util. It's a real pain.

If you can do the paperclip trick on your model that will be the only way it can be done I'm sure, as stated I have not seen a current PW generator that works with newer models.

If you have the registered owner details you can just call dell and they will give u the PW.

If you don't have the owner details, I did see a suggestion from a tech to complete the transfer of ownership online filling in the previous owner with "NA" then call dell after a couple of days and get the PW, I can't confirm this will work but I'm tempted to have a try.
Dell - International Ownership Transfer Form

Sorry I can't offer you an instant solution, but hopefully a bit of useful info for hijacking your thread!

What Dos proggies you taking about?

madasafish
These ones put your tag in and it will generate a p/w for you.

Thought it woz prob that, masterPW is the other one I think, they were created around 2003 and are only any use for older dell laptops. service tag on d620 is 7 characters!

Unless a new version has been released I'd say it's not gonna be any use sorry m8.

I have just sent the ebay guy an email, this is what he sent back.

Hi mate,

thank you for your request.

Yes, we can help
you to unlock any Dell laptop incl. D630.

All we need to know is just
the so called Service Tag of your Dell
notebook (e.g. #8WG0865-595B)
displayed on the password prompt screen.

The master password for your
laptop costs 25,- pounds and it can be
purchased through PayPal with the
following
link:

So there is deffo a way to do it just need to find out lol, or my mate can bite the bullet and pay out.

@hejira may work with your 620 if service tag ends in 595b.

@Devil cheers yeah seen that very useful general info, but as stated in that info there are security chips that can't be shorted and would have to be replaced to get around which the D620 seems to be one! I'm not going down that route my eyes are shot and I'll only end up doing more damage trying to solder a tiny chip LOL,

@TheJackel I've seen ebay sellers advertising this service which I assume is using a PW Generator n thats why I've overegged Public PW Generator in my posts, I've been reluctant to use such a service cos I'm a sceptic n a cheapskate LOL Let us know if you go down that route, I assume it's a dell employee earning a small fortune on the side.
