hi - i have a nokia dbox2, a eurovox connected....i am using wingate and two modems connected.......everything works perfectly......i am trying to connect a 3rd modem....but shows up on my taskbar as "limited or no connectivity".......connections, ethernet cables...4 way splitter are fine as ive connected each modem to the output of the splitter and they work ok......i have 3 ethernet ports on my pc....all working fine when checked individually.....all 3 modems have a working mac on them and they work ok.....just cannot get the 3rd modem to work...any ideas why..?...probably not a strong signal...?...any help and advice please....just want to see what download speed i can get with wingate...at the moment with 2 modems connected i can get around 35Mbps down and 4 Mbps up....

i have had 3 working fine off the same feed at mo got two modems in house both running at 44mb each at the same time so the feed can handle alot more than your 35mb

The fundamental clock speed is around 40Mbit/sec so you aren't going to get any more than that. Thats just what fits in the 8Mhz channel. By the time you take overheads into account you'd be lucky indeed to get more than 35Mbit/sec

Unless you can find the correct macs to run your modems on different channels then there's nothing much else you can do. Up until a few months ago each area only had one modem channel but now there tends to be four. The original channel and an extra three for the new 50Mbit service. Some 20Meg Macs have been migrated to one of the 50Meg channels and its these you would need to find. Scanning for them is difficult as they are effectively on a different network.

ambit & Motorola only handle around 35mbs,
anything more is lucky and be greatfull,
If i were any of you i wouldnt even attempt to try the 50meg config cos you'll just stick out like a sore thumb :BLOBBY:

and please elaborate on the way you use 2-3 modems on the same 1 PC........... ???

i use proxy server software such as wingate..which basically allows you to use more then 1 modem on you pc, you will need a sepearte ethernrt port for each modem...it alternates between each modem when downloading providing you can configure the software correctly...i can download a xbox360 game in around 25 to 40 minutes depending on the time of day and throttling limits by virgin..lol

is it really worth all the hassle?
are there any major benefits?

There used to be when all we had was the 10mb config.

I would connect 3 x10mb modems with Wingate and get around 27Mbps.

I've never been able to get over 30mbps on my line :(

Would anyone recommend a subbed along with an out of the loft modem??? or is it too dodgy?? not done a modem in years.. just paid since they hit and would go off every 2 seconds.. and then needed re-doing..

heres my download speed..at this very moment..

lol, awesome.

It must be good to have a good clear line, lol

Don't you find that you download any old shit just to keep the modems active?

I used to tag a big list of shit and it would be downloaded in no time, I discovered that for me, the fun was watching the things download rather than actually watching/listening or installing the stuff!

your right there m8....:proud:...i use to download any old crap...just to see the speed at which i was downloading, but now i only leave one modem on for general surfing, however when i need to download a lot of stuff, i switch the other one on and try to download after the capping has been lifted by vermin...it sometimes goes up to 42Mbps..lol, late at night though, like 3am in the morning..lol

so if i did this could i run an output to my router? and share the 2 modems over my network?

Cheers

Yes but what config you using to get this speed *50 meg config or what,
or is it with all this joining 2-3 modems to 1 line which if i'm honest i havnt got a clue what/how you do it cos you'd need more ethernet ports for 1 thing and a shit load of splitters ;)
