Just re-installed XP on father in law's PC but I'm not getting any sound.

Same thing happened on mine but I managed to download a Sound Driver however I'm not sure which one to download for this one.

Do I need to look up which sound card is installed or something like that?

How do I find out?

cheers

Heyup Mate,

Long time, no hear. You could try running sisoft sandra, this will ID the components in your f-i-l's system, alternatively if it's onboard sound you could ID the mobo and try the manufacturer's site.

I recently had a similar problem with XP, and it turned out to be the windows audio service wasn't starting up automatically. Went into control panel, admin tools, services and started it manually, and it seems ok now.

Do you plug your speakers in on the vertical silver pannel ( usually top left as you look from the back) or is there a horizontal pannel lower down that they are plugged in to ?

He's taken it home now..I'll check later..must admit I've never seen him plug speakers in..must be built into monitor.

Hi rutters if you right click on my computer, then at the bottom you will see properties, left click that and it will open system properties, click on the hardware tab that opens device manager , if you see any yellow question marks there you will need to download the drivers for those , take a note of the make and model of the pc then go to the manufacturers website , you will more than likely get the drivers you need there.
