2 things to check

check the fdd's arnt corupted, as there isnt that much running when you boot from floppys (drivers etc etc) if they are ok id check the memory.

the laptop "wouldnt boot from cd" is this it fails or u cant get it to boot from cd before hdd ?

could you give us some more info on why it would not boot from cd ,i take it you did change the boot info ?

what is the make of the laptop as it might need some drivers for windows to install from cd

check bios settings and make sure first boot is cd

Thanks for the info everyone yes I did alter the bios settings also on boot up I pressed f8 for additional boot menus.

But I have solved it I hunted though my cds and found a copy of win xp pro live this allowed me to format my hdd now I am back up and running once again thank you for your help.
