Hello boffin type peeps,
As you might guess I’m after a little help/info on a HP media centre M7000…

Basically my PC is running like a dog at the mo so I’m looking to do a rebuild but I’m have a few probs…

I tried to create a recovery disc some time ago and it didn’t like the CD I used, it then shut down the CD recovery manager. Now anytime I try and reburn the CD it says I have already made a copy and can’t make another one.

I’ve searched the tinternet and tried a few thing.
First thing I tried was setting the restore partition (D drive) to and active drive, but whenever I rebooted it would come up as boot failure. So I had to put the drive in another machine and change it back to a basic partition .

I’ve also tried to explored the drive, but anytime I try and click on anything within the drives I just tells me that the file is locked and gives me this

Recovery Partition
Warning!
This area of your hard drive
(or partition) contains files used
for your PC Recovery.
Do not delete or alter these files.
Any change to this partition could
prevent any recovery later..

If I go into CMD at DIR the D drive it doesn’t give me any info (dunno if that’s because it’s FAT32)

I would normally just use a hooky copie, but I use this machine to stream to my 360 so it has to be legit…

Any help would be greatly appreciated

That partition is for recovery only and might well be Fat32. You got the boot failure because there is nothing in that partition to boot your PC with. It is not an active partition and therefore you would get that message.

What problems are you having with your pc?

If you have'nt done anything with it yet try going to the site below and downloading Advanced Windows Care.

Run it on your PC, Scan but untick the Starup Manage box. You will find it will report and cure a huge number of problems and will get your PC back in condition. Unless you have something else going on like a virus or rootkit.

http://www.iobit.com/

Run it twice the 1st time and you can run it as often as you want becuase the Registry is the most likely point of problems on your PC. This is a cracking piece of S/W that works, is free and will keep your PC in good working order, trust me it will work.

Try their Defrag S/W too.

Once you've done this let us know how you got on and what else we can do to help.

cheers for that...

I'll give it a blast, but i think I'd just rather wipe it and stick a fresh copy back on...

just some of the issues-
network problems, the PC will disappear of the network, but it can still brows other machines, VNC to other machines and it still has internet access
also quite allot of the time when i right click my main display monitor goes black for a few seconds..
printer keeps going off line but it works imperfectly on another PC and from my NAS drive/print server...

So long as you've got a genuine Serial number, just browse the usual dodgy sites, and grab yourself a copy of the O/S you have currently, and during installation, use your genuine number...

Yes this should work fine, just install with any XP CD and key once its running you can then go to Google and download 'XP Key changer' -- its on the Microsoft site and you can plug in your licence key so updates etc will all work.

You could also give HP a call as they can be very helpful?

Cheers Keith.

Give it a go before fresh copy because it will literally take 5 mins max to install, run & clear the problems. Then decide if you need to wipe and reinstall.

Will look at the other issues.
