I have upgraded an IBM pc to xp it was running nt.
the problem is there is now no sound from the onboard card.
i have came across this problem before and resolved it with buying another sound card.
this was the easy option so this time i have tried in vain to resolve it without a new card i have been searching forums and trying different drivers over thepast week with no joy.
i have tried driver magic, driver genius, everest and my pc info and now im completely stumped.

any ideas and suggestions would be welcome. Davi3

Go into device manager, right click on the sound device which will have the yellow circle next to it and click properties.
Select the Details tab and look for "Device Instance id" which will look something like "PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0059&SUBSYS_AE011458&REV_A2\3&2411E6FE&0&20".
Google in this case the vendor id (10DE) and the device id (0059) and you should find out who makes the sound card / chip and model and lead you to the correct vendor.
Also as you were running NT your PC must be getting on a bit so it may be worth trying a Windows 2000 driver for XP.

Hope this helps.
