hi guys got a new pc today first i had this problem on startup

"warning sli mode vga power fail" please check the ez-plug power connector on mainboard"

i resolved this problem by changing something round on the motherboard from dual to single

anyhow once i sorted that out i got

"press ctrl+s or f4 to enter raid utility"

after this it kept rebooting and this is all it was doing anyhow i reformatted the hard drive which had vista on it but i never got to see it due to it rebooting all the time before loading

once i reformatted with windows xp everything went perfect booted up sweetly got onto the net used it for a few hours then i decided to do windowss update which showed me 81 updates i downloaded and installed them perfectly fine then i restarted the pc and now all im getting is this

Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

ive changed the settings in bios etc put the xp cd in and pressed repair all im getting is
Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

any ideas guys : shocked2

no mate will have to do that tmrw ive put too much stuff onto it dont really fancy doing a reformat again but if it comes to will do
like i said got it all going onlw when i did windows update then restarted it i got the major problem

Jimmy check you have not left a non system disc in the A: drive if you have one but it sounds like a HDD fault m8

Hello Jimmy

As mentioned above by Erazor786 & IANBBB check whether any floppies or ODD's are in the pc and or if the HDD is knackerd.

If the above is not problem than try the following.

Enter in to the BIOS and check whether raid is enabled, if you arn't using raid configuration than disable it. Also check you BOOT ORDER configuration.

Than use your xp boot cd or any other boot cd to check whether BOOT.INI is entact and accessible on your primary root partition/drive.

Let me know if the problem still exists.

Hope this helps.

Regards

What make of PC is it Jimmy, some maufactures put hidden partitions on their Pcs. download a copy of partition magic, burn to cd and check that the partition Xp is installed is set to active. sometimes Xp loses it and cannot read the drive.

also check your Raid settings Try switching Raid off and see if it boots

Did you say this was a NEW pc??

I'd take it back and **** it through the shops window!

thanks guys ive just noticed its not recognising the hardrive in bios all ive got is 1st boot (hard disk) 2 boot (cd room) ive changed them but these are the only options im getting gonna open it all up again to see if the hardrives ok etc will let you know how i get on

i dint buy it from a shop new mate its a second hand one im sure it will be nothing major lets hope i get it sorted today thanks for all your info guys much appreciated

change the molex power supply to the hard drive to another one too...if it not coming up in the bios then it probably gonna be the hard drive ..also change the ide/sata connection on the motherboard from ide0/sata0 to another one...i.e sata1/ide1.change the cable too if you have a spare...hope it works m8

mate....boot off your cd until you get to the screen that says REPAIR and choose this option, you will then get to a black screen and c:\ prompt, then type

c:\chkdsk

and let the pc run until the process is complete, restart the pc and check if this has fixed the problem, if not post results

if you have a spare hard drive, put the suspect one in as a slave and load xp onto the spare hd, worth a shot if only to attempt to recover info, is the suspect drive clicking? I've just been through the same scenario over the weekend with a clicking hd and had no success with a rescue, good luck for this on i hope its only the leads

if you have data on the drive you really want.... it sounds like its the controller on the hard drive.....

if you get a hard drive from the same company and model number. you can usually change the boards. i have done it a few times for customers.... i have 2 left in work im keeping an eye out for the same hdds with different faults.

iv had 2 x 400gb samsungs go down after 3 months. and a lot of hitachi so watch out when buying these drives.... espcially hitachi, cause they are made by excelstore as well that produced a lot of faulty drives a while ago.
