dell monitor prob?

Hey folks, i don't reckon it's a problem, more something i'm not doing!!!
ive got a dell 19" tft which has a couple of usb inputs on the side but when i connect a usb mem key to them nothing happens, do i need to load something on to get them to work, it;d be much handier then plugging into my tower all the time.

This may sound silly but, have you connected the supplied USB cable from the back of the monitor to a USB port on your PC?
I've found that I have problems when i connect a USB powered external hard disk to the monitor's ports, it doesn't seem to be able to supply enough power.

it's not silly at all, i ask my mate whom i bought it from and he said the exact same thing, plug in the cable dough ball!!!!

when you plug in the monitor do you get a usb hub appear in device manager?
