Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I have been on the forum since moving to Norway :)

But now I have a problem and I'm hoping that you guys have come across it before.
For the last 8 years I have been watching UK tv in Norway with Sky and and an ever increasing in size satellite dish in order to combat Astra's decreasing footprint over Europe! However I have a new house now and there are mountains in the way....no dish is getting through those! I have been forced to switch to a network of Roku boxes around the house all channeled through a VPN to watch Iplayer and itv hub etc etc but its getting to be a pain in the ass now with the Netflix proxy blocking and Iplayer throwing a wobbly every other day! But, I was wondering if I could install a Virgin Tivo box that is registered as a second box in my mum's house in the UK in my home here in Norway. My IT Guru here at work says that it would be possible if i were to use two of these.

MikroTik RouterBoard RB2011iL-IN Broadband Router (RouterOS Level 4)

He says that these would create an OVPN connection so it would look like the box that i bring back to Norway was still at my mum's in the UK.
He is confident in creating the network for me with these devices but as he dosn't have any experience with UK Tivo boxes and their connections I thought I would ask here about it before i spend time and money on this.

As always thanks for any input you can give.

:)

why not have the box at your parents then use a sling box?

What about the main Virgin cable feed?

does the virgin box not just use a network connection?

I have considered this but I had a Sling box a few years ago and it was very laggy and the quality not so good. Do you know if they have gotten better in recent years?

you can use any provider for cs but surely for main feed you would need to be connected to virgin via coax/fibre for channels.

why dont you go down the iptv way with plex on a now tv box not sure if its possible on a roku box

I have tried installing Kodi on a Raspberry but to be honest I ended up very confused as a lot of the streams were dead. I would go down this route if I could install something that has a proper EPG similar to Sky and has all the UK channels. Is there a Kodi expert here that can advise on the best source for something like this as I have tried lots of sources i see on You Tube and the like but they seem to cover all countries!

If you setup a Plex server you could buy a user/password sub to a Plex server that you can share with the rokus you have.
A Plex pin style sub on each roku would give you the same content but each roku would connect to the remote Plex server individually.

Not sure how much a user/pass sub would be but there's lots of lifetime pin deals on the auction site atm.

Go for a magbox which is a dedicated iptv box and will give you all of the uk channels with the right provider,You would need to get a sub of a provider and need fibre optic broadband to run it,Some providers are including full epg in the service

Not sure if you had thought of this or how you would implement it in a multi-setup but I didnt realise until a couple of days ago that you can log into virginmedia's web site and then stream all (well a lot including sky) channels that way.

They do have a tvanywhere app available but I havent looked into using it.

You would need your mums cable log-in details.

ok. I now seem to got a grip on this Kodi thing......sort of I have managed to watch some streams of various content but what im after is a complete image that i can load that will give me a full UK EPG that has all content linked already.
I managed to get Renegade epg working and it looks great but you have to link to all the channels seperately it seems which is causing me grief. Is there such a build out there that just works straight out the box?

I use IVUE tv guide but still need to link the channels separately
some you can add by the add-on others you will need to add to favorites from the add-ons same in Renegade I think.

There are paid IPTV addons for Kodi that provide all / most of the channels and link with IVUE, beware that as fare as I know none of them allow you to record
