Hi, I've just got one of these sticks. I'm pretty impressed so far. I have Kodi on it. Is there a way to stop Amazon doing the updates? I've looked in the menu and can't see how to do it.

hi, I've just downloaded adbfire. I can see where it says that Amazon updates are switched on. When I uncheck the box and click on save. When I go back to look the tick appears back in the box ?? I've tried it a couple of times and the same thing keeps happening.

Because it needs to be rooted first I believe .

Your best leaving as is did read if they detect its been rooted they can send a kill signal......I'm not too sure the fire stick has the fusable link or not

Fire TV box does

Use adbfire to create a backup when you have it running sweat

Regards blue

It can only be rooted using a Hardware soldering method , if you want to block updates you'll have to do it through your router or use something like opendns

You can block domains from what I have read through your router that will stop the updates if you need.

If your Fire TV is already rooted, there is a better way to block updates on the device itself. See my guide here. It’s still a good idea to follow this guide and block updates via your router as a second line of defense.

The Amazon Fire TV checks for updates during its initial setup. If an update is found, it downloads and installs the update without prompting for approval. All future updates are installed automatically without approval as well. The only way to block an update on a new or unrooted Fire TV is to block the update server through your router’s filtering or DNS options. This guide will show you how to block Fire TV updates using your router settings.

There are three domains to block:
Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

The first domain is where the updates are downloaded from, while the other two domains are accessed by the Fire TV to check if an update is available.

Different router models will handle domain blocking differently, so I can’t give you exact instructions. If you don’t know how to do it for your particular router, refer to your router’s user guide for exact instructions. The router setting you want to look for will likely be labeled as one of the following: Firewall, Filtering, Blocking, or Parenting.

Here is what the setting looks like in my Netgear router.

If your router does not have blocking capabilities, or you do not have access to the settings, you can alternately block the domains by setting up your router to use a services like OpenDNS and blocking the domain within their DNS options. OpenDNS has detailed guides to help you set it up.

lif you using a virgin media superhub 2 they don't do it m8 and you have to connect your superhub 2 to a different router .

When in Modem Mode, only one Ethernet port will be active on your Super Hub, so when using your own router make sure it's connected to the active port as shown in the image to the left. Alternatively, connect a computer or games console directly to this port. When you are in Modem Mode, to access the Main Menu type 192.168.100.1 into your internet browser.

If I can block these domains in my router (plusnet), will this stop the updates to my kindle?

has anyone had the update and still have kodi working? as my firestick has downloaded the update and is asking me to upgrade

I got an update a couple of weeks ago and it put kodi onto the main menu under my apps. Kodi is still working for me.

the update stopped my firestarter from working but the new version of firestarter works ok, I can confirm kodi still works and is added to the homescreen apps

I don't know of a way to auto start but as you have said go in recents or if you press and hold the home button you make Kodi a favourite and select it that way.

The fire stick goes in to standby anyway, so when you wake it up it will carry on from where you left off.

Why would you need it to auto start? Just don't turn it off. Or click the ok button.

I used to have firestarter autostart Kodi because I have no use for the amazon part of the firetvstick
