hi I bought one today the bloke i got from had all the sky channels unlocked so would I loose all these channels by updating the firmware or not?

Depends what firmware is on there as you can update and as long as you dont check anything in white box when prompted it will be fine - just to make sure put a usb in and back up you tp data

I've updated the firmware many time's in the past and my server details has remained on the box.

You will have to enable the DHCP server to "ON"

Theres no need to have dhcp on at all - in fact the dhcp is purely for wireless connection and is better secure set to off as it remembers the wireless connection (in this case the box) was connected to. If your using ethernet then its set to off or on regardless as its not related - i usually after rebooting and setting a cfg refresh ip by changing to on then apply then back to off then apply this usually connects to online.

so all the channels are free I dont know how this was done but understand he can use similar software on android (but obviously that must be APK format)

now Im going to sound really thick (I will just blame my stroke lol) but it doesnt have a card!

If you receive sky channels with no card but have an ethernet connection you are illegally sharing someones card.
