is this an openbox on ebay ? i am brand new to this forum and would like any ideas of the best box for a beginner.many thanks

My bad,
Everyones selling it branded as that.
Even in china.

It's looks the same too externally but internally and firmware is different.

Should've done more research before answering.

It's called orton or opticum I think?

is it any good or should i avoid it.would this forum work for setting it up?again thanks

same vintage as s10 and no support here,so I would avoid it.
You could google for other info.

great i will avoid.what model openbox should i look for.occasional viewing plus record maybe

Go for a skybox f3 48 quid on ebay delivered I got one it is a nice little box u can download software from their own website.

can not comment on openbox as never had one but have had an orton x403p for over a year and never had a problem
it has scart output which s10 does not have has faster processor then s10 using 396mhz ali chip simple to set up.
has cccam newcamnd and mgcamnd support just enter line with remote
found this box 100 times better in running lines than spiderbox 9000 ever was quick channel change even works my usb3 500gb portable drive with no issues playing mp3 and records in ts does not play divx or wma some avi files play some do not but never was meant to be a media centre
only thing i can say is very basic remote which you have to some times hit the button two or 3 times to do what you want it to
there is no support here but loads about elsewhere quite a few diff hacked firmware about as well
im currently using a hacked dynavision firmware by gisclub and its a nice gui style which i like
all these boxes are a good buy for the money now i paid £70 last year and prices are down to around £50 now same for the openboxes
whichever one you go for for £50 it does what you want it to do with basic functions just set it up and watch tv and may be replaced by newer versions soon and support may die down but this is the same for all boxes whether they cost £50 or £500.
but do not expect them to ever be like a dreambox or have the support dreamboxes have
saying that they are a great deal easier to set up than a dreambox and perfect to get you started
