Hi,

I've been wondering if there was a version of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) available for Wii, and finally managed to find one that works. Had to spend a bit of time faffing around to make it run for me, but it's well worth a look.

Download MameWii, and the way I've set up my file is to:

Take the mame folder out of the mame-wii-v1.0 folder and put it on root of your SD card
Take the sdlmamewii folder out of the mame-wii-v1.0 folder and put it in the apps folder of your SD card
Put your roms in the rom mame/rom folder (I included as many version of the roms as I could, to try to get better compatability)

Run Homebrew and select MAME, turn Wiimote sideways and up and down to select, 2 to start game.
Home calls up the menu, and pressing 1+2 simultaneously should quit you back to homebrew channel.

Things still to do:
I cant get the aspect ratio to work properly, so vertical scrolling games are stretched to widescreen.
It has a habit of dumping out: hold the Wii power button for 5 secs to switch of then restart.
Find a forwarder to make it appear as a Wii channel
Find a version that will work from my HDD instead of the SD card
Not all roms work, MAME on PC is much more forgiving than this. But Nemesis on a 42" plasma TV is feckin' ACE!

Hope somebody else can get some use out of this, and maybe help me out with the screen stretch thing?

Does this play the standard mame roms? I know FBAnext for the PS3 has it's own versions.

Can you put the roms on an external hard drive instead of the SD card, I have around 30gb of roms also 200gb of CHD files.

I might have to dig the Wii out of the cupboard I aint used it in years it just sits there next to the PS3. :)

what roms are you using with this?
and where are you putting the rom folder?

i keep getting "no roms found, pathway error"???

Hi folks,

Captin, I'm using some standard mame roms I've had for years, and I few I think I got from your FTP. I put in as many different variations as I could to get one to work (see Black Tiger). |Some games just wont show up at all, others will show but not run (missing CHD and stuff). I think on the original machines they had seperate chips for different processes, and you need all the bits to make it work. Some, like Bezerk I think, have a couple of files that are only about 10k each, but wont work.

You can run them from the HDD, but I wasnt able to get both the roms AND the emulator itself running from HDD, just the roms, so I left them both on the SD card. I always leave the card in anyway, for my guitar hero dlc. Its not nearly as good as MAME for PC, crashes a good bit and a lot of roms dont work, but its a good laugh for what it is. I just have some of my favourite classics on the card, only about 80mb of files in total. Doesnt seem to be any particular reason to what will work: I can play Sunset Riders with no problem, but Galaxian crashes every time.

Buzzer, if you put the roms in the rom path as my pic, it should work for for you. New volume is the SD card, so the rom path is Card root/mame/roms

Let me know if you have any trouble and I'll help if I can.

thats how i had them m8, but refused to work for me.. lol..

could you just upload the contents of your sd card somewhere, so i can copy it... ;)
