I have tried to swap out the contents of my old original DS when my youngest broke the hinge. The swap was simple but after powering it back on at the end the bottom display is white with come coloured and black lines running down it.

Have I damaged the display when swapping over the part or could it be I have caused a short of some type.

If it is the display would it be the LCD and not the touch screen?

from memory, ( i ain't opened one up in a while) the metal plate on back of bottom screen can cause shorts and it's recommended to cover it in insulating tape.

problem is more likley to be the ribbon cable cont connected properly. these are a pain in the arse, i learned to test screens before putting console back together after a while.. lol
with the ribbon cable, there is a tiny bar that you sort of prise up on the socket, then make sure ribbon cable is pushed fully in before closing it over.

the touchscreen wont be causing your problem at all... :)

I have reseated the cables a few times but I will strip it down and check the back of the display. Am I right in thinking the top and bottom displays are the same, if so can I swap these to test?

i think the ribbon cables connections are the same on the screens (but not certain) so you could maybe test it with thing in bits,
but remember the top touchscreen ribbon cable is longer and i think the speakers are attached to it.

these vids are really good...

Well, it ended up being the cable. It took a bit of working to get a solid connection but it worked. Thanks.

Now I have another issue with the top screen, it a sickly colour of red/orange. I reseated the the cables and checked for a short circuit with no luck, have I screwed up the top screen?

possibly the ribbon cable is damaged m8,
problem with the topscreens is that the cable is wound round and forced through a tight gap to connect to board on bottom of console.
if not done correctly, they can be very easily damaged during this process...

i've mangled a few maself.. ;)

pretty cheap to buy right enough..

I will try a new screen, the cable did look a bit tired at the hinge.

P.S it is the original DS.
