Hi guys, hope someone can help I'm loosing my mind here.
I have been using a cat5/6 hdmi sender and a 2 way hdmi splitter with my TiVo box for a while now without issue. I wanted to expand the setup to another tv so bought a 4 way splitter and another cat5/6 hdmi sender.
When I have 3 devices plugged in to the splitter I get random picture drop outs. Sometimes a lot others more sporadically. Everything works fine with 2 devices plugged in. I have tried 3 different 4 way active splitters now and have had the same results. I have replaced all of the hdmi cables I use and the cat 6 cables used with the senders . Any ideas please?

The one thing that is sticking in my mind is, the tv that has a direct hdmi connection never looses picture.

Thanks

Are the HDMI senders passive or active also as it sounds like a power problem and some of the more so called cheaper splitter alternatives even though powered which are more than likely derived from china are just not up to the job.

you should really be looking at a full blown HDMI Extender kit: SAC 1x4 HDMI Extender + Splitter Kit over Cat5e/6 with IR - 1080p 60Hz | eBay

or even better a full blown HDMI Matrix system prices do vary though

Each splitter is active. The picture drop out occurred if I unplug or plug in a device also , so I think it is something to do with hdcp handshake. The cat5 extenders I am using look just the same as the ones in the link you have provided but don't have the main unit. That is a lot of money also.

I really don't know what the issue is it's strange.

@rawsy is the Splitter active also as the dropout can only mean power issues, all HDMI boards either TV,Blu-Ray Player, Xbox,PS4 are all active and need current to work. Passive splitters rely on the power from the other equipment in the chain to work correctly.

the one i linked to is one of the cheaper ones HDMI matrix units can cost anything from around £700-£5000 for a decent one, that linked unit is actually cheaper to buy trade over £100 cheaper.

Yes, everything is active splitter and senders .
thanks

Dropouts only generally occur due to Power/Not enough Juice for the required devices putting a strain on some and not others.

Have you though about an HDMI modulator that is if your required viewing TV's have Coax already available to them and again they are MPEG4 capable its a cheaper option at around £130 for a Modulator but will give any Freeview HD TV a 1080p picture and the modulator will supply numerous TV's you just need Loft/room Splitter/Booster.

Just another option

I had looked at that and could probably have got one with what I have spent so far.
I'm just annoyed as it should work. It has been fine with just 2 devices for ages. The 3rd device is the same distance aswell.
Cheers for you suggestions. Really don't know what to do. I just wanted a splitter that worked. The picture and sound are great and the drop out is only a couple of seconds each time , just really frustrating .

Thanks

Could be external interference, increased bandwidth or just one of the senders going away.
I have used splitters up to 6 way with medium quality hdmi cables with no issues.
I would bet on the sender/power supply is at fault.

finally fixed it, Yay.

it turns out the all of the 4 way splitter's i tried simply do not play nice with the hdmi senders i have. I ordered another 2 way splitter and have daisy chained it with my original 2 way splitter and all is well with the world again.

so be careful if you use this hdmi extender 1080P HD 3D 60M HDMI IR Extender Adapter Over Single LAN RJ45 CAT5e CAT6 7 Cable | eBay it works great but not with all splitters.

Its been emotional , thanks

I had a similar situation with splitters not been able to handle the hdmi handshake, if the problems come back try a Base HD hdmi splitter extender
