My Bandit has ben off the road for about 16 months after I ruptured my Achilles' tendon last year. Want to get back on the road again but it isn't running very well. Probably due to fuel going off I should think- I only did 280 miles since last MOT. What would you suggest? Drain the tank, clean the carbs? It had a new coil fitted at the last MOT but it doesn't seem to be firing very well. I can get it started but the engine races then dies, races and dies constantly, even after it has warmed up. Any advice gratefully received, I bought a Haynes manual and happy to have a go at anything easy.

Sounds like its been staved on the idle circuit mate to me. New fuel and then carb cleanup mate as you say exactly as i do.

Pain in the arse it is but probably needed.

think you nailed it mate renew the fuel firstly then a clean up

Leaving your bike standing for months is not helping you one bit. Stale petrol turns to ethanol and this in turn creates bacteria and fluffs up your tank, fuel lines and carbs. As stated strip it down fully clean it with the correct carb/fuel cleaners new plugs, and new fuel should rectify this problem then. Good luck and happy biking. :)
