any body had any experience of poor stating on these bikes. min looses all battery power ,and then it will suddenly start and back to normal. obviously bad connection somewhere but not found it yet.

any help appreciated

Hi
By poor starting do you mean the cranking or the actual starting of the engine.
Check the earthing on your bike, at the battery and chassis/engine points etc
When it does turn over is it smooth and linear or does the cranking speed change at all.
When was the last service and are the plugs/filter/oil ok.
Have you got the tools to do a compression test.

Electric start switch could be your problem corrosion ect. Will it start using the kick start method?.

I have replaced the battery without making any difference, the engine will crack sometimes and start straight away, and other times it won't crack at all. I have checked the earth straps and cleaned and greased them, the last time that I had a go at it it started normally about twenty times and the reverse worked ok. so I put it back together and when I tried to start it to put it away all the dash lights started to flash on and off and it wouldn't start. I am trying to work out how to get at the ignition switch assembly to check that now. I am fairly sure it must be something at that end.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

just an update.
managed to sort out the problem, it was a plug and socket at the front of the fuel tank that had parted.

thanks for taking an interest in this.

Glad you got it sorted M8
Just for future reference and other readers interest, You will get a slight dimming of the ignition/neutral lights etc as the biggest draw of amps put on the battery is when you attempting to start her up, if alls ok then she starts and the lights then steady if not then below are 2 of the most common causes and there fixes.

A) Batterys got cells down/low acid and hence only 8v to 10v is being delivered at low amps (New Battery)

B) Starter motor windings-stator-bushes or bearings are shot at causing an overloaded pull from the battery ie the ignition/neutral lights disappear altogether (Rebuild or Replace)
