Hi, as the heading say I’m looking for a Sony Ericsson with an above average camera that I can use as a wifi hotspot so I can use it with my itouch and laptop.
I know this can work on Nokia N95, N96 but to be host I think they’re to big and ugly.
I’m not going to narrow my choices down to just Sony Ericsson,
so is there anything else out there that will do the same thing but isn’t the size of a small country

Cheers in advance

You want to use the phone as a wifi hotspot? I am sorry, but that makes no sense. Do you mean you would like to use the phone to connect your laptop to the internet?

there is software out there (mainly for windows based phones) that turns your mobile into a wireless router so you can connect other wireless devices through it over a 3G network..

i know the iPone does works 100%, but as i said i'm not looking for a bulky handset

You are talking about IP Passthrough? It isnt something a Nokia S60 does out of the box and I would surprised to hear of an SE phone that does this as it is quite business orientated function.

Just get any 3G phone that can act as a modem for your laptop. That way you can use the laptop as the access point - there is no need to try and turn your phone into a router, it would be way too slow to do this.

i know most phones will work with a lapy but the main app I'm gonna use it for it my itouch..

Which is fine, if you connect the phone to the laptop and use it as a 3g modem then all you need to do is create an ad-hoc wireless network on the laptop, to which you connect your ipod. Thus enabling you to connect to the internet on it.

thanks for that but that isn't the application I'm after...
it's mainly for my itouch and occasionally my PSP, the lapy would only get used if I'm in the car and need something for work...

Good luck finding it then. SE phones dont really have that level of software support compared to the iPhone or Nokia S60 devices, so I feel you will be searching in vain.

However, dont go looking for software to turn your phone into a wireless router, there will be none down to the fact a mobil phone isnt powerful enough to do that. Instead, look for something that will enable you to create an ad hoc wireless network on the phone or turn the phone into a wifi access point.

Even then though, you will need a phone with very good resources in order to do this.
