A workmate asked me if I could find a way to unblock this phone for him. I don't know the history of this phone but appears to be brand new. This phone is Virgin, would it still be blocked if it could be unlocked to another provider?

Unlocking will not unblock the phone. Its the IMEI number is that gets blocked, and unlocking does not change the IEMI number.

PS its a hefty fine and upto 5 years birdy if caught unblocking a phone.

Cheers little pob, I guessed that would of been the answer anyway. Just wanted to make sure before I told my mate that his phone is now a paperweight.

i wouldn't bother with it mate you have to change your imei number but it is allegal, and you get put in jail straight away so wouldn't bother with it mate.

Cheers mate but you have just echoed little pobs post. I wouldn't dream of doing anything illegal. It's ok to mod a few stb's and modems isn't it?.

Seriously though, I found out a little more about this phone. There are 20 of them, all brand new and have been stolen from the warehouse where I work. Neither myself nor my workmate were involved in this apart from the fact my workmate was going to buy one. Luckily he asked me about the chance of unblocking it before parting with any money.

No worries mate, my post wasn't intended as a flame. Having the knowledge is different to using it though, wouldn't the new ieme number need to be a legit one from the correct provider? If so then I would have to lose a phone to gain a phone anyway.
I've returned the phone to my mate now. The whole lot will likely be binned now, pity really as the displays alone would have some value.
