Hi

On Windows 7 ultimate is there a way I can move the users from the C drive to a secondary drive?
It's just that my c drive is 240GB SSD & I have 1TB secondary sata drive. Though it's a good way of saving space on my main drive.

Have a read here

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

As always make backups of important data first.

I think you may need 2 pcs and then use easy transfer.
Is it just the data you are bothered about? If so, may cause less trouble creating the accounts as new and then just copy the data over for each user. Just create one folder in my docs for each user and drop everything in there.
I'm sure there has to be 3rd party software out there that would do this so Google may be your friend.

Reading this again do you simply want to pick them up and move the whole folder to another drive?

Dont think its as easy as copying to another drive

If your the admin then apply permissions to the files and folders you want to move across. As long as you have access to the files and folders then you can copy or move them.

Another option would be to use Robocopy but this can be a pain if you don't understand how to use it. Although there are plenty of GUI software out there that do the same job. "Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier" being one of them.

Im confused apply permissions to the whole of the users folder or individual account or folders within the account e.g documents music etc

Apply permissions to the individual account folders. You may even need to take ownership of them.
Are the users not going to be logging on to the pc anymore with you wanting to move these folders? Obvioulsy once you move this data then there user profile will be gone.
Or you could use "Treesize" to see where the large chunks of data are and just copy these across and leave the profiles in place.

I you just like to move the personal folder, the easiest way would be to right click on a personal folder like "Documents" or "Pictures" and Select "Path". Here you can specify the new location.

This sounds like the easiest option. I'l create a restore point first then try it. As you know moving user accounts from c drive can cause boot up problems for the users. If i move downloads documents pictures music thats should do it.
Thanks

I moved all the personal folders from C drive to a HDD now, all looks good & working great. I just seen another thread from chooky, free upgrade to windows 10. Now I'm thinking if I upgrade will all my setting that I've created with the personal folders saved on alternative drive stay the same or will they revert back to C drive when I upgrade?
Any ideas guys
