Hi
Ref Toshiba Satellite C660D

My friends lad got this laptop where it won't update windows update, when I click check for updates it just shows "checking for updates" but nothing happens. I think he has got virus or malware on it personally. I ran malware bytes which cleared lots of malware but still same issue. So I decided to load a fresh install of windows activated it and ran windows update, same issues just checking for updates but doesn't find any?
I also ran windows update diagnostics tools and it fixed some registry issues but I get the error code 8024402C? I don't have any other anti virus or firewall installed? Any help will be appreciated as always. Could this be a virus/software issue or a hardware/motherboard issue?
Plus now I think a lot of drivers are missing but I can't do the update to locate them, I went on Toshiba website and downloaded all o them but the wireless still don't work but I can connect direct from Ethernet? Is there a way I can log online download the all the windows latest update onto usb and install that way?

thanks
Ice

I have a samsung laptop I did the same.. I had lots of drivers missing

I download every driver to USB flash drive on my desktop pc the installed one at a time including the wifi drivers sound etc

Hope this helps

Why don't you just format the drive and stick a fresh version of windows on there

Normally windows 7 is very good with drivers

I had a little search but couldn't find a windows update package

But I found these if they are any good to you

I did download every driver onto pc then transferred via usb but still the wifi doesn't connect or detect it? @ idrob, where do I install these codes? in CMD? will I need to be run as administrator, if so can you help me do that as I tried yesterday but couldn't do it?
Control +R type CMD then black DOC screen appears tried right click on the mouse but I don't have run as administrator there?

Which codes are talking about mate?

I haven't used win 7 for years

on win 10 you just right click the start button and click (command prompt as admin)

If you don't have a copy of win 7 get one of the ISO links I posted

Burn it to disk or USB and while you are installing there will be an option to format the hard disk before installation

ok thanks, i'll do that tonight and post my finding later

Hi,
We have been having probs lately with updates also.
Have you tries running windows defender.
Open the run box and type defender press enter and do an update and scan.
Restart and wait. Can take overnight but they should kick in.Also try renaming the softwaredistribution folder in windows to
softwaredistributionold but make sure you stop the update service first(type services.msc in run box and find windows update service and stop).
Restart update service when you have renamed folder.

Hi i did a fresh install took over night to do all the updates but still when i try update windows it states never been perforrmed and just get the checking for updates.
Shall i run defender first and do the check for updates in windows updates and leave it over night or shall i run defender then rename softwaredistribution folder then stop windows update service and then do the windows update. Once this done will i have to delete softwaredistribution and start windows update service.

Had the same problem myself with Windows update running the whole time and doing nothing. I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded Windows update then reinstalled it and it's working now.

Sion do you a link to microsoft page where you downloaded the updates from? So i can try this first.

Google 'download Windows update agent ' and go to the Microsoft result then pick the one for your system

Thanks PAPA I ran this last night. Shall I try windows updates again? and leave them running over night?

Hi mate, I've been preparing and downgrading loads of laptops at work to Windows 7, one thing I have to do for my prep is run Windows update. It takes ages just to check for the updates, be patient mate leave it running a few hours then it'll take a load more time installing the damn things!

If you ran it then you already have the updates downloaded but not installed yet,
Go into the client folder and run the Updateinstaller, it takes time just let it do its thing , when its done you'll be up to date and windows update will be working as normal

Sorry I this sounds dum but where is the client folder located?

Client folder is in the wsusoffline folder , all updates are downloaded to the wsus folder in the client and
you run the updateinstaller.exe to install them
