There’s been a lot of confusion about who gets free upgrades to Windows 10 on July 29th, but this flowchart should make it nice and simple to determine if you do.

“Get Windows 10” App Suddenly Disappears from Some Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs

It’s no secret that this little tool was annoying and some proceeded to removing it, but it turns out that in some cases, the app itself disappeared completely for an unknown reason.

GWX.exe no longer working

Since the “Get Windows 10” app is no longer available in the system tray, some people tried to launch it manually, but it turns out that the GWX.exe process is not working either.

The process simply fails to launch, and some users claim that it could be caused by a recent update that Microsoft made to the app to display pricing information for some specific markets.

Microsoft hasn’t yet announced any changes that might impact users’ PC, but expect the app to re-appear in system tray before July 29 when the new Windows 10 is projected to launch, so your computer should be ready to fire up the installer.

The app disappeared from my taskbar a few days ago but it has returned today.
