I can't grasp this GHZ thing lol I have 2.7GHz i5 (old)
I'm looking at a new i7 that is 1.8ghz? ??? How can this be slower in ghz
Lol help me understand please

Out and about......

Computer manufacturers primarily use "GHz" as a marketing term to describe the relative performance of the different computers they offer. If two computers are similar in design and share the same processor architecture, the computer with a higher processor clock speed in GHz will offer superior performance. However, several other factors also influence overall computer performance, such as the speed of the video card, memory and hard drive.

In some cases, it may be possible to configure a computer's processor soit runs faster than its rated GHz speed. This usually requires entering thecomputer's BIOS configuration menu to increase the speed of the system bus --which forces all of the system's components to run at a faster speed -- or the"CPU multiplier," which increases the speed of the processor alone.Overclocking generally voids a computer's warranty and may shorten the usablelife of its components. However, many enthusiasts overclock their computersanyway to improve performance during gaming, video rendering and other tasks.Using "extreme cooling" methods such as liquid nitrogen, it ispossible to temporarily achieve processor speeds above 8 GHz.

I have already watched that @turner brown and it did answer some questions but also I got to admit confuses me a little lol

so he summarizes but saying "i7 is the best thing intel could build"
so Im surmising that the new i7 with lower ghz is better than my old i5 with faster ghz
shall we leave it at that ;)

Ive been looking at touchscreen laptops all weekend and I ain't going to lie its given me a headache lol
Dell website is a nightmare knowing if its touchscreen or not lol and spoke to them on chat a fair few times
Non-Touch Screen
Height: 0.9” (21.8mm) / Width: 14.9” (380mm) / Depth: 10.0” (259mm)
Starting at 5.24lbs (2.38 Kg)

Touch Screen
Height: 0.9” (22.0mm) / Width: 14.9” (380mm) / Depth: 10.0” (259mm)
Starting at 5.70lbs (2.6 Kg) with 3-cell 43WHr battery

I've now ben comparing the CPU speeds thanks to @turner brown

Ive been looking at the acer that is a 2013 i7

That isnt much faster than a dell 2014 i5

forget the middle i7 as it turns out thats not a touchscreen

The other attachment is my old i5 and the new 5th Generation i5-5200U as you can see its much faster :) and not much slower than the 2013 i7

The Dell is £499 5th Generation i5-5200U does anyone in the know, know if there is a faster i7 touchscreen for around the same price before I commit to the Dell :)
Thanks for all your help and tips

Thanks for all the tips :) went for the Dell in the end :)

what spec did you go for in the end as I'm still looking for the exlusive deal.

@kegnkiwi I went for the Inspiron 15 5000-Series

They dont do the i7 in touchscreen yet in the Inspiron i5 range and the 17 was out of my price range

I done some cpu comparisons with 2013/2014 i7 and the 5th gen arnt that much slower from my findings for the extra money

and I have been happy with the dell I have now so that kinda swung it for me tbh

:)
