Windows Vista Ultimate x86 SP1 ..... need key ..... worn off, HDD Dead.

Hi all,

My nephew has a Toshiba Laptop that the HDD failed on. Installed new hdd, downloaded the OS for it, only the Key underneath is worn away (as usual) !! so can not be read.

Any way around this peeps

bin vista and stick window 7 or 8 on it,
then use an activator

Don't know how well it will run it ? It's for his DJ work. He needs to run dj software on it.

if it can run vista then it will be fine for win 7/8

Ive tried that and it tells me no suitable usb drive detected... even tho its 60gb usb ?

Try an alternative USB port.

Check the file system - I've only used this with NTFS formatted sticks/drives with a single partition.

Tried 2 other usb ports, file system is NTFS with no partitions .... ?

Ive put the iso's for both x32 and x64 on usb already, although it wouldnt work when it was empty either.

The ISO can't be on the USB drive you want to turn into the boot device.

Thinking about it, IIRC, part of the setup formats the thumb drive anyway.

I tried with an empty drive tho ? and it still didnt see the drive

Hmm. This is what the troubleshoot suggests:

My USB drive is not in the list of available devices
If you don't see your USB drive in the list of available devices, please make sure the drive is inserted in the USB port, and then click the Refresh button beside the list of available drives.

Do you have another drive you could try?

Do you have any blank DVDs lying around? As that tool will let you burn to DVD too.

Not that I know of
