hello all

I have just bought the above and I want to change from windows 8 as I hate it and it is slowwwww
I don't want to chance formatting the drive to be honest in case I mess up and cant go back , do you guys think it will be safe if I back up the original hard drive as is to an external before I format this and put windows 7 ultimate on?
I was going to buy another hard drive to swap this out so I could always go back....

any ideas please guys

Hi you need to boot into your BIOS settings and find and disable secure boot..
It's a simple on/off it will then boot from what ever you tell it too.

yes I tried that mate , I have just put it in a external then tried it on pc but it does not find it???

it is a Samsung 500gb

Sounds like drive is no good as it should show up on PC.
One thing is that drive will not show unless it has been assigned a drive letter..
While on PC go to device/drive manager see if you can see it then assign a drive letter.

Method 1: Run the automated troubleshooter for your version of Windows:

(This method applies to Disk Drives, USB flash drives or CD and DVD drives)

Method 2: Make sure that the drive has a drive letter assigned in Disk Management:

(This method applies to Disk Drives, USB flash drives or CD and DVD drives)
Method 3: Make sure that the disk drive is Enabled

(This method applies to Disk Drives, and USB flash drives)

Method 4: Make sure that the drive is Online

(This method applies to Disk Drives)

Method 5: Your USB drive may be corrupted

(This method applies to Disk Drives, hard drives, USB flash drives or CD and DVD drives)

Method 6: Corrupted registry keys may be causing issues with connecting to your CD or DVD drive

Or read here mate..My External Hard Drive is not recognized by my computer | HGST Storage

He it helps

hi mate

tried this in laptop and desktop and it does not recognise or boot

What do you mean try..when drive is in external caddy and you connect to pc have you been to device disk manager and can you see it.?
Are correct drivers for USB drive caddy installed..

One more thing have you put new 500. Samsung into laptop and at startup pressed F12 or whatever it is to tell laptop to boot from CD...(your installation disk)

Sorry mate just thinking out loud.
