I'm getting many errors, so far these are not being copied over from the disc.Doubt it will boot up even though have skipped.

driver.cab
msls31.dll
msvbvm50.dll
ntartW.chm
rio8drv.sys
riodrv.sys
vwipxspx.dll
wbdbase.sve

Could be my CD, CD driver, hard drive, Ram. Who knows.

Can any recommend me a hard drive diagnostic tool that I can boot from a cd, seeing as I'm guessing that I want be able to boot up to windows after this is done?

Also, does anyone know whether I'll be able to copy the missing files over to there appropriate folders after? somehow someway?... I know that there is a bigger problem, but i'm just hoping it's the CD!.

Cheers,

segel

Hi mate this could be a combination of your hd or your copy of xp , have you got another copy you can try, if not ill upload 1 to the forum for you ,try installing another copy that way it will help you see if its what hd or cd, if it is your hd you , 1 way you could partition it and in stall it on 1 or the other partitions to eliminate

Cheers Biffo! Have tried this CD on a different computer it runs fine. Just running a mem test at the moment as Really don't know what it could be. The laptop has just been given to me.

Looks like it could be the hard drive or the cd drive? What would you recommend mate?

Cheers

The drive in the laptop might not be able to read the same copy of the disc. Can you try and make a backup of the disc and then try installing from the new backup?

Going to have a go with a usb boot, if no one has any other suggestion to eliminate the CD drive, see if that will work, after the mem test finishes. Cheers

how old is the laptop mate , look into the bios just to make sure you can boot from usb, after doing some checking this seemed to solve the problem . copy the driver.cab file off another pc and then try update through windows up

It's an IBM T23 Mate. Can't even boot into windows, blue screen once everything is installed and skipped what want install. Still trying to install from usb, will keep you updated.

Have you tried making a memtest86 boot disc? Could even be your ram at fault. I had a similar issue With a PC I built years ago, it would either bluescreen when trying to install xp or it would complete early and corrupt soon after. Had to rma the ram and it was fine. Have you played With any bios settings recently?

Your on the right track with trying to load windows from a bootable USB stick mate incase your disc is scratched. Eliminate the potential issues one by one and you should find the culprit :)

@smirnoff_rules IDE drive! @jamesyboyjim, run memtest, everything passed and nothing failed! Rams good. No luck with usb yet. right pain in the arse, trying to make a xp bootable usb drive. Going to update bios now.
