With the arrival of the Raspberry Pi 2, there is enough power to drive real convincing emulation on the device...

I am playing with retropie, piplay .... do you have hints or experience to share about it ?

Remember those old sit down coffee table sort of machines you used to get, they'd be good if you could get the right screen

Mintos, funny you just said that! I got my first Raspberry Pi a few weeks ago, and have been building a sit-down type videogame cabinet out of a reclaimed old kitchen sink cabinet. Where the sink should go is where I am going to put the tempered glass top. Painted everything flat black so far. The monitor will be mounted facing up under the glass, and I've built some wooden supports for arcade controllers on each side. Just need some cheap IKEA stools, and finally to try and figure out Retropi!

I've got a bit caught up playing Fifa with the grandson so the pi is on the back burner at the moment, wish there was an actual plan for the build, I can follow instructions but I'm no good at making it up as you go, would never have thought of a reclaimed sink for example, need to get back to it

It would be nice to watch how Your project develops @stinkydj perhaps You can add photos as it progresses.

Set retropie up on my pi 3 a few days ago mainly cos I fancied playing Lemmings again. Would like to take it a bit further but struggling to get the Amiga emulator working atm but it is early days for me still with this project. Quite forgot how much fun it is ;)

Had the same problem with a few of the commodore emulators. Had to have the right BIOS ROM image in the BIOS folder. Luckily I have nearly every possible BIOS files for the Amiga, C64, Plus4, Vic 20, C128 etc.. plus all the workbench variations.

I've got daphne running on retripi but doesnt seem to like my joystick.

Had to use a 128gb SD card too as I have too many roms for the 64gb card I was using. Good job there is a command in the retopie to expand the SD card storage so you can use it all.

You're right about the bios roms, looks like I really need the Amiga kickstart roms instead of trying to use the Aros. Seems I can get them through Google store Amiga Forever Essentials. This has the roms and workbench and only 69p

I can't remember if this is where I downloaded mine as I use WinUAE now and then but if it doesn't work I think I have most of them and can send them to you.

I was using WinUAE to put a HDD image together for a A1200 I have (what an ordeal... HDD over 4GB so partition and custom file system...).

Perfect Rob, had seen other places offering downloads but Malwarebytes didn't like them. Think I have what I need to get started now.:)

I might have a few more Amiga sites bookmarked if you need anything more (when I find them I'll list them) although I think some of the downloads got removed from one of the biggest ones. I go into an Amiga phase now and then :). It still has quite a following and I was using WinUAE and a PC to install Workbench (it wans't even OS, I think).

You might like Amiga "full-set":

It's a 2GB file of just about every Amiga game released. I'd like to get all the software too!

Cheers Rob, download has just finished. Got to do some thinking now cos I'm not completely sure what I want. Could go the Retropie route which I've already started and have some snes, megadrive and master system roms already working. Thinking maybe using another SD card and installing Amibian just for Amiga games and just swap cards.
Could just go the pc emulator route and put my pi back to cctv keeping an eye on my front door . Think I'll pour another 3 fingers of redeye and mull over it, lol.

Will be interesting to see @chookey, multiple emulators is more advanced than I've tried :).

I'm not sure why I like using the original Amiga hardware (I also have original Atari 2600, VIC20, several A500s to be refurbished...) now and then but it just appeals to me now and then! I like vintage hardware :).

I think it was about 80/81 when I first got hold of a space invaders rom. I was undergoing further electronics training in Swindon for a relatively nearby Government facility. Me and a guy (Steve Sheppard) from Telford fashioned and built an eeprom reader/programmer and slotted the rom into a Sinclair ZX81. Helped pass the time at night as I lived 80 miles away and it was a residential course only going home for the weekend.
Then about 88/89 I bought "the kids" a Sega Master system with Sonic the Hedgehog and Alex Kidd built in, after that I got the Megadrive. Used to have the bro-in-law round on a weekend till 4 in the morning playing pga tour, he was a sore loser but we thought that game was the bees knees, lol.
