Veteran actor Sir John Hurt has died aged 77, his agent has said.

The Bafta-winning star, known for his roles in Alien and The Elephant Man, continued working despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.

He recently starred as Father Richard McSorley in Jackie, the biopic of President John F. Kennedy's wife.

US director Mel Brooks described Sir John as "cinematic immortality", as tributes poured in for the star.

Really sad to hear of this.
I love my documentarys and his voice made them documentarys even more engaging.
(especially the "universe" shows)

Its a voice I will always reconize for many years to come.

He was an amazing talent. My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting him at film premiere in London and he seemed like a lovely man. May he rest in peace.

RIP John Hurt, he took a real risk with one of his first major roles as Quentin Crisp in the Naked Civil Servant back in the mid Seventies. I remember watching it and thinking that surely only a homosexual man would be brave/daft enough to do that role no matter how good the acting was.
