The end of the plastic bag.

that is a lot of plastic bags, just goes to show what a throw away society we are.

I don't know why they still use plastic, surely paper is the way to go, maybe its to expensive I don't know .....

It gets me though with McDonald's and others who use paper bags but still try and charge in Wales and Scotland but not England . Must just be when they hear my accent .

Tbh, I think the loss of 40 jobs, balanced against the enormous ecological benefits, has got to be viewed in perspective.

thats just one company mate... there are loads more.
i work in the industy and its not looking good for quite a few.

and would you have that same opinion if it were you being forced onto the dole??

The people that work in that industry compared to the damage being done to this planet is a no brainer. The companies could easily diversify by using a different bio degradable material. We all need some sort of container to carry our shopping.
I used to be mystified watching American programmes where their shopping was in brown bags with no handles. The lack of handles still mystifies me but brown paper makes sense. Potatoes, mushrooms, probably any veg or fruit fare better in brown paper than plastic. Doesn't clog our landfill sites either with crap that doesn't decay.

So there is hope after all for the 40 redundancies. Paper bags. Perhaps some genius that gets his job back can re invent handles for the said bags and everyone is a happy bunny. ;)

Im must be old fashioned, I would rather see people in work earning a living.

im off out now to, sign on.... and hug a few trees on my way :classic:

I'm just watching a program about the final solution.
There does seem to be a keen interest in robotics and drone delivery at the moment, book Your place in the energy production fire. Or just destroy China and India, as our efforts are almost useless, bar showing the way.

I'm not serious by the way, but the human race is a problem.

On a positive note, I think I heard a news report recently about a uni developing a new form of fuel to replace petrol using the photosynthesis process. Apparently it could be usable within 5 years, or is this tomorrows world all over again?

No-one seems to be producing string bags now. For ages I've wanted strong bags that will collapse down and fit into a pocket for doing my food shopping. Maybe the handles would need plastic tubes or some kind of woven bit.

My mother told me that they did exist in the 70s!

They aren't 5p though. I would like to know who has an interest in this.

I always take my own bag to the shop, but there is always the time's were I buy to much and need a bag.
Just recently I've needed a lot of plastic dog poo bags, which still don't work for dog diarrhea, I hope they don't try to make them out of hemp, it could get really costly and equally ineffective.
