Sad day for the whole world

RIP Mr Mandela :(

Shame that. What a man.
R.I.P. Nelson Mandela.

Always a sad time when someone passes away...

Probably going to get shot down for this.... but was he not a terrorist?

I maybe mistaken, but did he not try and overthrow a government essentially through acts of "terrorism"? His motives may have been good but......

EDIT just seen diggers post above.

One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. IMHO he was a great man who suffered for a cause, highlighting another dark chapter in our history where others stood by and watched oppression on a mass scale. He will be remembered by most as a turning point for the better.

On a lighter note, 1 down with just Brucie and Prince Philip to go on my Xmas prediction list.

who is the terrorist, is it the Bullingdon club ex members Cameron, Osborne and Boris or a man who fought for millions of oppressed people. Not only was David Cameron involved in creating that poster he went on a trip to South Africa in the 80's to oppose sanctions and support apartheid. However I am sure he will unashamedly lead the tributes.

Today George Square in Glasgow are remembering a great man, earlier this year at George Square they were tramping the dirt down on thatchers death who like the Bullingdon Club hated Mandela

If you research Nelson Mandela's early years he is obviously not the saint he is being made out to be, and even on his famous "Walk to Freedom" one of the first things he does is make the Black Power sign.
Some of the outpourings about him at the moment are pure bilge !
However, during his time as President he did manage to correct his original outlook and did manage to take South Africa forward and to bring a much more stable racial attitude within the country and for that he does deserve praise, but that praise should not be made to obliterate some of the horrors that the ANC of which Nelson Mandela was an integral part, against those who disagreed with any of their policies.
And this included tribal massacres which had nothing to do with anti-apartheid to which people now associate the ANC.
I would also add that it should be celebrated the difference in attitudes that he has managed to achieve in South Africa and also the way he has promoted those changes throughout the world.

I think the terrorist argument can't easily be written off due to MK's public targeting. The scale of that I don't know too much of, or how much of it was directly sanctioned by Mandela himself... I don't think refusal to denounce something, and ordering it are the same thing. However, I could never use Mandela, Adams, McGuinness in the same breath (other than I just have :))
