A girl has been killed after picking up a loaded gun, apparently mistaking it for a Wii Remote gun-style controller.

Three year-old Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan from Wilson County Tennessee died from a single self-inflicted shot to the abdomen from a .380 calibre semi-automatic pistol. The loaded firearm had been left on the coffee table in the living room of the girl’s house, after her stepfather thought he had heard a prowler outside.

According to the child’s mother, Cheyenne had been playing a Wii game that uses a gun peripheral - not one manufactured or approved by Nintendo (seen in the picture, underneath the handgun used in the shooting) - shortly before the accident occurred. The youngster was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe is investigating the case, although has not yet brought any charges relating to this tragic incident.

couldnt agree anymore... a loaded gun on a coffee table is just askin for trouble in any situation.

Agreed.. does make me laugh, not about the poor girl but at how people can be so stupid and thoughtless?? i mean i cant even let my kids eat a lollipop without me supervising them.. but to leave a loaded gun.. come on.. but i suspect there is more to this story...

I normally don't get involved with these posts but who in their fucking right mind would leave a loaded gun where a toddler could get access to it, what a complete utter fucktard!!

People like that don't deserve kids, I have friends who are trying hard and struggling to have kids, yet idiots like this exist and are allowed to multiply.... should have had his cock shot off years ago and saved people the heart ache

OK she is a baby but if she uses the Wii on a regular basis then sure she knows to point the gun at the tellie and not herself???

Have to agree with you Steve, what sort of idiot leaves a loaded gun on the coffee table and then goes back to bed leaving it for anyone, not just the 3y/o to pick it. The numpty thought there was a burgler FFS, so yeah, I'll just leave my gun out and go back to bed.!?!?! No. Stupid doesn't begin to cover it. Pity the little maid didn't shoot the father, it would have been poetic justice.

Something seems fishy with all this though, it just doesn't add up.
