well just picked up me raspberry pi seems forever ago when i regestered and orderd and must say its small about 20 no 6 cig pack size
all ive got to do now is remember why i ordered it and what i was going to do with it .i think it was better order one of those that will come in hand for now i just have to remember lol i think i had media sreamer or simlar in mind
guess this happens when you hit 40 and reguly abuse your brain cells with cider and home brew

I got on order as well, hasnt turned up yet. I just ordered one to mess around with. They will run OSCAM with a omnikey USB reader....They also can run a port of XBMC called raspbmc for media streaming.

i run oscam on my PI with OpenVPN
its ok but its not the best, it needs more memory.

i have a cron job to clear caches which i got from here and also a reboot in the morning to keep things running ok.

im gonna put the PI to another use like mentioned XBMC and put oscam and openvpn back onto a proper device.

yep begining of march when i requested mine then the code then the order .
connected it up last night thought i had a dud for a minute as no os would boot up on the screen so checked the pi site and the dedian version i had downloadedway back then had this prob and now recomend raspbian which i downloaded and put on sd and reconected and we had life (damm that writing is small) sort of reminds me off all them years ago with the old spectrum connected to the portable and trying to copy programs for games from a magazine .
we got to the screen and very basic os no media codecs no download centre like a main linux os
again as stated a bare bones computer to learn how to program and with an sd card you can not kill anythinge
i did see on the pi site the xmbc links and also they are working on android for the pi
so quite a lot more happening

Is this anything like getting a rhubarb crumble ?
What do you mean I am a technophobe.

My rasberry has been disaptched by farnell...should be here soon :Biggrin2:

just an update i always thought i was a bit jinxed after trying wheezy rasbpian and rpbmc and could not get the usb ports to work thought it was me so downloaded and reformatted all images again got a usb hub tried wireless keyboard and remote and the usb just loses the power when the gui boots up out goes the yellow lights .
i have got in touch with rs components stating i think it is faulty but have heard nothing back from them apart froman email saying sort this complaint out a.s.ap but nothing else.
doing a bit of reading in this has happened to quite a few and the newer boards from farnell have been updated .
just me luck waited over 3 months and ahhhhh should ave bought a joggler to play with and bung ubuntu and xbmc on it
all part of the fun though

I got my Raspberry from Farnell they had stock quicker than RS also slightly cheaper. USB ports seem to be running fine. I dont currently use the USB ports is connected to my TV and running Raspxbmc which I control via my phone using the remote control app over WiFi .

I did consider using it for OSCAM but I have a couiple of old redundant Dm500c's so better off using them instead..I would have had to buy an additional USB card reader for the Raspberry..

I have noticed though that the Raspberry doesnt like DTS audio it struggles with HD and DTS, starts freezing every few seconds it hasnt got hardware audio decoding capibilities...

well got an email from rs today stating to send back for refund or replacement may have to toss a coin
i have read on the pi site that you can now buy some codecs to add to the chip for some playback problems i di think it might struggle with streaming especially say video or tv show from navi-x but thought it might be ok from my home networkbut never got to try
just read that you can run the spectrum emulator and play the spectrum game roms on it that takes me back wiring it up to the telly waiting for the game to load from tape (whoops showing me age now)

Android port to PI is being worked on and more video codecs seem to be makng their way onto the PI via licenses I hear a DTS license is coming, they are a good inexpensive XBMC based media player.
If the Android port goes well then I can see these getting very popular .

Hi All,

First time poster so sorry if I sound like a plum! I've just bought a raspberry Pi for my boyfriend as a gift and wanted to know what accessories people consider to be the most important to have with the Pi as a starting point?

Thanks!

ive a raspberry pi for a while had a play , not that hard really to actually install the pi operating system , and plugins while the concept is good and its a lot cheaper alternitive to the ATV 2 still needs work for me ,onboard ram for me needs to be at least a gig , early days though so fingers crossed the technology will improve as any one selling an AVT 2 just want stupid prices for them
