hi all

Is there anyway to find the IP address of someone im chatting to on MSN? is there any software about?

thanks in advance, MA.

Hiya m8y,

I've posted the answer to this before but I can't find it.
From what I remember... and it's hazy... ;)
get them to send you a file via msn and once it's going, go to a cmd window and type ipconfig/all.
It'll be in there somewhere... I think lol

I used to use Sygate firewall and log the IP's in the connection log while online on MSN or Yahoo and use Nero trace to trace the IP's Its quite hazy thoug.

Anyway hope this helps

thanks for the quick replies guys :)

@Nephillim, i tried, but i dont think its the right command, but thanks anyway. I will have another search for your post.

@lynneandcrow, i dont think im ready to install a whole new firewall just for this, but thanks :)

@smirnoff rules, i kinda wanna get it without them knowing lol

any other ideas? :)

What Nephillim said does work. You need to type:
ipconfig /all
into command prompt.

I think it was because you didnt put a space between the ipconfig and the /all bit. :)

heres what i got for netstat -a (see attachment below).

i've circled in red what i think the IP of the person im sending the file to could be (he's on AOL, so i'm just guessing lol), but its not in the xxx.xxx.xx.xxx form. is there anyway to get it like that?

sorry m8 that and the other shows ur name and ip
plus if he is on AOL u wont get a true ip

use 'netstat -an' to show the IP in dotted decimal/numerical format.

it brings up a long list of addresses, but how would i know which one it is?

sorry i meant in general, if i were to send a non-AOL user a file, how would i know which IP was theirs?

you know via the port/s the connection is using, not sure which ports msn uses to send and recieve files as I don't use it.
