So my friend has been getting some emails from someone anonymous email account and we want to find out who it is.
However the only info I have is an email address. Also the email address is completely made up just for sending these anonymous emails.
Is there a way of finding out where the email address was first created or who registered it just by the email address?
If it helps the email is a @gamil.com account.
Help would be appreciated cheers guys

I think you mean gmail.com?

Anyway, unlikely as you don't have to give any details to get one.

One possibility is the address is used in some scam and you might start by a google search for the address then follow up selling sites such as Ebay.

It's possible you could get a lead that way. Also consider business information sites such as advertising (Freeindex etc) and the free searches on company information sites.

It's a long shot though.

Yes your right its a gmail account sorry.
Also its nothing to do with advertising or scamming its someone that we know who is sending emails mugging us off. We would like to get to the bottom of it and then once we know who it is we can take it further. Its a shame that some people talk to you like you are pals and then go home and write bitchy emails behind your back in 2016. Shocking.

You can get the IP address from the sender. You can do a few things with that info. (sorry i say no more)
But if they used a vpn/proxy that will be a problem.
Check all the emails and if the same IP address appears in many emails track the IP and find out more.

goggle "trace email ip gmail"

Which is exactly why I never mentioned tracing the IP address, all they have to do is proxy/vpn/tor and the address is meaningless.

The point about scamming is not that they are doing that to you, necessarily, but it can aid in identification. However, it seems you know them already?

If that's true part of the question seems to be missing?

youre right we think that its someone that we both know. My mate is the one that has been getting all the emails not me but we think we know who it is just need some evidence before pointing fingers. All I have is the senders email address so not much info to go by. Ill ask my mate to forward on the email to me and see if I can get some more info from it as in the IP address and I can take it from there.

Did you have any joy with this?

they will almost certainly have used false details when signing up. Might be worth a try trying to engage them in conversation and see if they say anything that would point the finger at someone, or give them away.

Well we have done some talking and it turns out that my mate has friends in very high places and we have forwarded the original email on to him. He has said that he knows where the email was sent from from what ISP was used, he even now knows the card used to pay the bill for the internet supply and he has gone so far as to tell us what the person in questions last card transactions are. Needless to say the bloke that send the email/trolled him/us is well and truly screwed.

Maybe search for the email address in Google/Bing? Sometimes this can pull back some more info e.g. if the email address is used in a forum or a domain's contact details etc. It's a long shot though and I suspect you've already done this.

I normally search a email through google to check if it legit or not
Also
I sometimes use facebook.
Facebook lets you search users by email address. Just paste the email address of the person into the search box and Facebook will instantly tell you if a profile exists with that email address or not.
