Im on BT infinity..my speed is solid at 38mps never changes.

That's Infinity 1 M8. I get the same out in the sticks. You can get BT to provide a speed estimate but it will be dependent on the quality/length of the cable between your house and the cabinet given it's FTTC.

Been using Infinity2 for around just short of 3 years and have just renewed again, I get around 78mb Down and 18mb Up in the 3 years i have had BT its been down for a total of around 7 Hours.

I use newsgroups have done for around 18 years and dont get any Traffic shaping i get my full Max download 24 hours a day my usual monthly download is around 900gb to 1.5tb and never had problems.

Torrents on the other hand is a Big No-No

This as been pretty the same since the go
Plus I have not experienced any speed shaping at any time of day ...

These are my estimated speeds with btinfinity 2 33Mb-45Mb* Estimated download and speed range* 7Mb-9Mb* upload IF i can get close or better than the estimated speed looks like i will jump ship to bt and thankyou for all your replies much appreciated has bt got their own free newsgroups

Is the infinity 2 product still based on FTTC (76 meg down 20 up)?

Just about to get the FTTP product installed - 330 Meg down 40 up, should be interesting :)

has bt got their own free newsgroups
Max three connections, though. I also use xsusenet's free 1mb service and Easynews for any missing on the freebies. Combined download speed with BT and xsusenet is roughly 2.7-2.8mb/s that's megabits not Megabytes, mind.

Whoever you use, wiring from cabinet to your property is the same and maintained by BT infrastructure.

BT also do Infinity3 and Infinity4 with 200mb and 300mb download respectively. Obviously this is FTTP when i did my deal the other day for another 12 months i quizzed about the cost of this to my premises but got the answer that it was dealt with another side of BT. Business side i would assume or those with Fibre already in place instead of copper

just a little update had another engineer done line testing in the house no problems there he also done tests outside the house no problems there so when push came to shove so to speak sky had capped my line @27 meg anyhow he got the cap off was getting 44 meg down last night put pc on this morning modem syncing at 34000 got on the phone to sky same old bullshit once again told the guy you are talking bollocks now he says the line got to sync for seven days once again so if speeds dont improve in seven days and im not getting the 44 meg down as i was getting last night will be off btinfinity 2 so if you guys got sky check your sync speed of your router on your routers on line page as speed tests are not very accurate

That's crap mate. I had fiber and it stayed at the speed from day one.

If you were constantly turning modem on.off that may cause issues but otherwise speed should remain constant. AFAIK synch is only for good old adsl to check what speed line can maintain.

What is the problem with switching the router on/off?

With electricity prices nowadays, I turned my router off at the mains when I leave for work and when I go to bed, there is no reason for me to have it on if I'm not using it.

It makes the hardware in the exchange think your losing synch and it drops speed to increase line stability

I did not know that, BTW my ISP is Virgin.
I never had connection problems when I was wired (turning router off/on) but have since I had the my 2nd WiFi router (Super Hub in 2011).
I will keep it on from now, what would suggest I do as I go on holiday for 2 weeks twice a year, leave it on or turn it off?
Thanks

I have infinity and leave it on 24/7. Unless your worried I would leave it on but up to you mate.

Just a little update speeds haven't improved six days in of line sync and im not getting anywhere near 44 meg down that i was getting after the engineer left my sync at the moment download 40001 but my upload has improved 11684 so i am paying a extra £10 for sky fibre pro nothing as i was syncing @ 40000 down 10000 up when everything was working fine i know the upload has got better but £10 for the extra 1684 upload, for me the upload isn't worth it .. but Thankyou to all that has replied and read my thread much appreciated @ madhatter i leave my internet on 24/7 as well cant be asked to turn everything off as it causes havoc lol only thing i turn off is the main pc

yet another update phoned sky same problem the guy on the other end of the phone was completely peed off when we said enough is enough he said theres not a lot i can do for you so we said no problem put us through to someone who can anyway we gave sky our months notice to turn everything off they tried to keep us as customers and kept the misses on the phone trying to convince us to stay because they are losing about £97 from us a month with everything anyway now we have gone to get btinfinity 2 thanks to everyone who has replied and read this thread
