Hi Ive been having a problem downloading torrentz for a long time now.

I have a 3mb Ntl connection and use utorrrent. I am getting the green light on utorrent to say everything is ok. But I am lucky if I download any faster then 10kps.

This is all the Time.

Any help much appriciated

Thanks

If the torrent is well seeded, If your port-forwarding (if required) is setup properly, If your cable provider ain't throttling you & your basic settings in uTorrent are ok I'd expect to see around 300 kB/s max on your 3MB (?) cable. Should certainly be getting much higher than 10kB/s.
Suggestions; Choose a well seeded torrent, check out hxxp://portforward.com, d/l outwith 'peak times' (4pm till midnight). I've got a wee file with basic settings for uTorrent but can't seem to attach it at the moment. Will try later. If you really need it pm me with an email address & I'll send it to you.
Good luck.
EDIT: I've attached the file now (just in case anybody else wants it), I got it from elsewhere a while back but they echo the settings I had/have.

@boboboy.
Had some probs setting up my netgear. Cure was updating the firmware & following the instructions for the relevant router using uTorrent on the portforward website. Not sure what else you could try, hopefully somebody on here has better suggestions.

thanks m8 hopefully like u say someone will know how to solve it

start reading and learning m8............ after installing a router, you will come across other issues unless you know how to port forward etc......... your router settings will be full of useful things that you need to know.
routers ip, should be 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.2.1)
then you should be able to find a port forwarding section. It should be self explanitory how to open your ports.
And in your uTorrent preferences you will see the port your are using in the 'connections' tab.
Mine is Port 25815. Choose a port like this, not the old 6881-9 etc.
I would try and help more but I dont have a Belkin and I'm too tired to read up on them :)

Basic utorrent settings.
Recommended version 1.6 build 474

Use a high port number, between 45000 and 60000.
Disable DHT(if using a private tracker)
Set Encryption to FORCED.

If using a router, you will need to port forward the port number that utorrent uses. See www.portforward.com. Select your router, then select utorrent and follow the instructions.

Make sure you set a static LAN IP. This is very important.

Any one know how to use news groups, and are they free

this could be your problem. when windows was updated to SP2, microsoft limited the number of half open connections to 10 by default. this means that your torrent connections cant get through alot of the time. so you need to change the number of connections to a higher number.
go to this site
http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads
download the program and run it. and set the half open connections to something around the 500-600 mark.
also change the number of simultaneous connections in utorrent to a similar number (both connections per torrent and global connections). this doesnt work for everyone but it helps alot of people get better speeds.
btw- i set the connection numbers to 5000, and i can get max speed out my 20mb line. but you should start with a lower number and see how you get on.
hope this helps

Thanks for that info about changing the half open ports.
I thought by changing it in UTorrent that was it changed, but it wasn't. cheerz.

if u using utorrent then do the following

set upload of torrent to 3kbps
goto speed settings and set to the MAX setting avalible

and that what i had to do wen was wit ntl changed to sky now for better upload

there shouldnt be any need to limit your upload. i would take no notice of this advice. this is classed as leeching, and will not be tolerated by any private torrent sites. you would get banned as your ratio would be so low.

Hm, i'm slightly concerned, if the port forwarding was working correctly then you shouldnt have to disable the routers firewall. This would mean that you are now 'open', with just the Windows firewall protecting you. Maybe no big deal.

i use newshosting which is good and it costs me about £7.50 a month unlimited download
beauty of it is, better speed and no waiting.

xlned gives one week free access to the news groups.

Change email and spoof your ip and you can keep getting it for free
