i bought a Technika 32-56 32 inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV with Freeview for £199 the other day now this tv is ment too play films via usb i have loaded 2 films to the flash pen and the video side plays fine but there is no audio
the 2 films were xvid ( avi ) and a converted one for writing to dvd can anyone give me a clue on how to get the audio to work as both films have audio with them but does not play have checked with xbox360 and audio plays fine with that
kind regards

sorry for very late reply hawkish m8
dont say anything about codec's in book but i went to tesco and asked they said it has to be xvid codec but i put an xvid on usb and it dont play says unsupported formate thanks

Not a problem mate :)

If the filename is long on the divx avi shorten it with no punctuation.
Also make sure it is in the root of the drive and not in any folders.
It is also possible that the file is encoded with an incompatible framerate or the television can only handle ac3 stereo avi instead of 5.1 sound avi.
If no joy try actually naming the end of the file with .avi - so if on you pc the file says 'ghostbusters' rename to 'ghostbusters.avi' to give the set a helping hand.

Tescos are clearly not too savvy as a xvid looks 100% like divx to tvs

good luck

thanks for reply
have to agree tesco aint very good
am away atm but back friday and will have a look at it then and give your ideas a try

download ojosoft total video converter, browse for film to be converted put it in input file name.Choose output folder(wherever you want the converted file to go,desktop maks it easier to find, click on (to avi) (top left of box)click on dropdown box of avi profile, select 8th option video mpeg 4-1500kbps audio mp3-192kbps then click convert, once finished send converted video to your external hard drive and your done.It does work i,ve got 2 tecknica tvs and it works fine for both of them.

most films do work with sound but if you do have any problems use ojosoft total video,

Xvid only refers to video codec, the sound can be encoded in different way too, like AC3 or Mp3. AVI is just a general term for video file, it has no specific meaning about what encoding method has been used and there are tons.

Not all equipment that play AVI files have all codecs built-in.

As previously suggested I would re-encode the video making sure to choose xvid as the video codec and MP3 as the sound option, this is the most widely accepted combination.

I would also recommend Freemake Video Converter as it's super simple and super fast and totally FREE. Freemake | Best Freeware Alternatives To Paid Video Software

You can select all options for encoding output and it will works with over 200 input/output file formats, it even converts to and from DVD or Blu-ray, and seems to be faster and better than convertxtodvd.

just recently bought a Technika 42" 3D HD Tv from Tesco Outlet on Ebay for £289. Connected to SKY HD WORLD and im happy with results, but back on topic and regarding USB. Tried all of above and works a treat. Thank you for info. Saves on buying dvds all the time and conversion is pretty quick. Ta again.
