Basic Calibration for your LCD, Plasma or Projector

Thanks m8. is it just a matter of playing the DVD and it automatacally does the calibration or is it quite involved?

Shaun127 - its not that difficult at all mate. I'm sure everyone on this forum is capable of a basic calibration, after all we all managed to get our cable boxes working properly :proud:a

@Munkey mate i was refering to pops1a post above about playing the dvd and it does it for you, it doesnt, the DVE dvd has basic calibration and advanced calibration, it isnt as simple as putting the dvd in the drive and letting it do it for you. is it? you have to go through each test patten and ajust it your self, True?

LOL I misread that. Of course you can't place the disc in and it 'sorts' your TV out. That would be fantastic if possible.

This really is very easy to do IMO. Flashing my dreambox was much harder to do. Rather than being a technical process it is just a time consuming one.

setting up plasma/lcd tv

hi guys great forum ,easy way to set up these tv,s is to grap a copy of monsters inc dvd and use the thx optimiser from the main menu. Also useing decent cables makes a big difference!

For those that have been unable to source a copy of DVE never fear. There is a great website called http://www.w6rz.net/ which contains some great patterns for setting up your display device. If anyone needs any help on which to download just post here. I have however attached a few of the important ones in this post.

A few people have commented on using THX certified discs for calibration. Whilst these discs are good enough for a basic calibration they cannot even begin to offer the full spectrum of test patterns that DVE can offer (bear in mind the DVE disc contains 1080p and 720p test patterns also). If you are happy with the picture that you have achieved using the THX disc then just enjoy!

edit - Uploads functionality is not currently working, I'll upload the files later :)

I just had a search for you but I cant find the nzb anywhere. I guess it will have to be torrents :(

I've got a copy of DVE on DVD9, I'll upload it to a newsgroups later on for those of you that need it.

I'll let everyone know which group I post it to, it'll most likely be alt.binaries.DVD

You're a diamond geezer witchy.

Hope your old man like his new set.

I'm just compressing the VIDEO_TS folder with Winrar and I'll begin uploading to USENET once it is fully compressed, I'll also generate 15% PAR files incase some servers have missing parts.

I'll be uploading to Ngroups.Net which is my provider, Ngroups users should see it almost immediately those on other servers should see it starting to appear later today, I'll be uploading with the Virgin 20mb downstream / 1mb upstream config so it'll take a while :)

Posts will be called 'WITCHY2K1 - DIGITAL VIDEO ESSENTIALS' and will be slightly less than 29mb each (30,000,000 bytes to be exact).

If you download the file that witchy2k1's has so kindly uploaded you'll have a great test disc to calibrate your display.

The links work for me to, not sure why they don't work for you mate.

Run it off your PC. Don't compress the disc to vcd or you'll defeat the purpose of the exercise. You need to keep the test patterns in their original format and resolution.

If you follow the guide in post#1 that will be a good start.

Just thought that I would mention that you need to calibrate for each source. So if you use your PC to play the DVE disc you will only be able to calibrate your PC. If you want to calibrate your DVD player you would need to burn the disc and then play it back in your DVD players. I know that this is a pain in the arse and most people just calibrate their TV once and use that for all sources ie DVD player, STB, Games console etc.

If if you only do it just the once you'll get great results across the board.
