Thanks for the quick response. I'm looking for an image and instructions on how to enter a line (mgcamd) into oscam ymodv18-t39, as there is no protocol for mgcamd in the readers section.

The loading of cams is the same in all images. Some images you can download it from plugins menu others you have to install emu pack tell me what image you are using and I will advice.

If you haven't loaded a E2 image I would recommend the openatv image they support both the Alien 8900 and the Alien 2, the images are still beta images but very stable but the only thing you have to do is install a feed ipk afterwards to get the softcam option in the install plugin menu, I've tried oscam and mgcamd both work without problems.

Can't think of why you'd need to be using MGCamd if you have OScam setup and running, is there a specific reason you want to use MGCamd? If it's just to enter a line that's been given to you as using the MGCamd protocol then in fact it will just be an N line (Newcamd and MGCamd are more or less the same protocol), so just enter as an N line and that in most cases will be enough... If there is something more to your reason for wanting MGcamd then let us know what it is and we can have a look at it, should be nothing OScam can't do though and defiantly should be the softcam of choice if possible.

Hi,

I need to try mgcamd as some only use mgcamd protocol. Oscam is running fab. Just would like to know if possible, so i've got the best of both worlds so to speak.

OScam is capable of supporting all the popular protocols, so really should be no need to venture into using anything but OScam? Are you just wanting to use OScam as an MGCamd client or as an MGCamd server?

hi,

I have a line which is mgcamd, there is no protocol in oscam to use it. Can you tell i'm a newbie.... lol
So where do i input this line???

I'm doing this on the phone at the moment but you would need DCC and if you are using n line then you will have to create a newcamd.list file not there by default.

/usr/keys/mg_cfg file if I remember rightly

Advice remains, forget the use of MGCamd, it's not needed or required, stick with OScam, it's more than capable of doing what you need.

OK should be straight forward enough hopefully.... MGCamd and Newcamd are basically the same thing, the only difference is MGCamd allows for multiple providers where as Newcamd is tied to a single provider, that's just for information though so if you're not quite sure what that means then don't worry, it shouldn't be to important to getting it working! Basically you'll be using the Newcamd protocol as far as OScam is concerned....

Sooooo OScam, how are you setting this up at the moment, is it via the OScam Webif or are you manually changing the oscam.server file?

In some images I have found mgcamd is quicker when zapping channels also I believe some servers ban use of Oscam because of reshare.

Providing OScam is setup correctly there will be no (extra) delay in zap times, also there is no way a server would even know you were using OScam if setup correctly, likewise if the server itself is/was setup correctly then you won't be able to reshare anyway if it's not been allowed from the server end, it's a bit of a myth that you can just run OScam and reshare no matter what, that's not the case but it dates back to a time when that might have been possible...

OScam is the norm these days and what most servers will be based around, chances are these days no matter if it's CCcam, Newcamd or MGCamd it's being 'given' to you as it will most likely actually be OScam the server is running and of course it's constantly updated and current, MGCamd, Newcamd and CCcam are very much finished in terms of future development, but of course still all popular for client receivers and all fully supported and backwards compatible when using OScam - Best advice of all though is if the server you are connecting to has a problem with you using OScam (not that they really need know anyway) then you would be much better off looking elsewhere!

I would like to say a big thankyou for all your advice guys. Ya made my mind up then oscam all the way, do i need to update the oscam i'm running now or should the saying if it aint broke don't fix it rule come to mind. All this converting, file listing config seem to hard to master, but an easy guide by guide would be good so i could have a play when i'm bored.

Thanks again.

Nope no need to update I wouldn't have thought, all you'll be doing is adding to rather than changing. You mentioned using the backup file before, if that's the latest one then it should have most everything done for you, all you'll need to do is change change the URL and port number and username and password from the preset example in OScam Webif and that's more or less it....

So first things first, are you familiar with the OScam Webif? If not then with OScam running (sound like you have that part working already?) in a web browser on a PC on the same local network as your receiver enter http://ip-address-of-receiver:8888 and it will bring up the OScam Webif - try this first (check the PDF guide that comes with the backup firmware for a little more detail on that - a few other interesting bits to in pointing you in the right direction when it comes to this backup image), once you've got access to the OScam Webif post back up and also include your line details - of course not the actual details, just replace them with something else but in the same format, should be easier to point you in the right direction then of what goes where.
