OK guys I dont see this anywhere in the forums so decided to write one up. I've finally managed to install tomtom 7 on my pda (mda compact3).
So here goes:

1) Find the device ID of your PDA.
To do this you will need tomtom home from HERE

Install then connect your pda usig active sync.
It will recognise your device and after strting up, see the pictures below where you have to click.

2) Download TTN7.450.9028_repack.cab from somewhere (usual places, just search in google and you will find)

3) Download MAP. I got this one United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_v720.1802.

4) In the map folder you will find loads of files, we want the 3 files that end with META, PNA and DCT. Copy them to a another folder called "insert_meta_from_Map_here". <--- yes thats the name of the folder.

5) Go one step up from the folder you should have 4 files and one folder. the 4 files ar called:

DeviceID.txt
RunMeforDCT.bat
tt7_keygen.exe
meta.txt

and the folder is called:

insert_meta_from_Map_here

In the DeviceID.txt just copy and paste your device ID.
double click on RunmeForDCT.bat > select Option 1 > Follow instructions.
Once it has completed, go into the "insert_meta_from_Map_here" folder and copy the new META, PNA and DCT files into your map folder and replace them. > Your map is now ready.

Put the TTN7.450.9028_repack.cab into the storage card of your PDA and run it. it will install tomtom on your PDA. > copy map onto the storage card.
Run tomtom and off you go!

Any problems let me know guys hope this helps and hope i been clear.

You don't need TomTom Home. Start TomTom and then exit it. Browse the location where you copied the map folder to, user microSD card. You will see a file called ttnavigator.bif copy this to the desktop of your PC. Open it in WordPad, here you will find DeviceID.

You can read the device ID on the PDA screen if you already have TT and a map on your PDA prior to upgrading.

Simply in the opening map view tap the satellite bars box and then the version number box. Your device ID will be found there just after the map version details.

Good shout porche 944 on finding device id i got tomtom home running and connected brought my pda up but device id and serial blank.

Cheers..

Hi Devil666x
Just inserte the three files out of original map folder into insert meta folder run dct getting a kind of dos dialogue box up then selected option 1 hit key starts to sort of generate something. at top getting metacheck not recognised then carries on says ok thengoes on to say device id symbol not recognised then at the end hit any key. Should there be a new set of files in the insert meta folder now as i only have the ones i copied in there from original map folder.

Cheers m8

did you do this stage mate?
"In the DeviceID.txt just copy and paste your device ID."

Hi,

a newbie to the SatNAv, so please bear with me.

managed to get A TyTN II for free from local mobile network - new toy yippee!!!

Have Nav 6 software, installed UK & Irl 6.75 map.

I see this thread details instructions for Nav 7 - what's the benefits for NAv 7?

I know that TT will release no more maps after 6.75 for N6 - but are the 6.75 maps out of date already?

Any other major benefits with Nav 7?

TT7 is good but the latest version 7 map, well the one i am using 1802 is very poor. got me lost 3 times and 3 times i have used it. version 6.75 map was the best map in my opinion. plus i dont see any benefit in upgrading to the software as a general user.

thanks for the reply.

By 'general user', that implies that there is some sort of super-user - is this some sort of enhanced access for business etc?

I myself will be only using N6 for the basics, so from what yu're saying, I should just keep it for now, till the maps improve on N7?

general user as in just for navigation once in a while, well that be a light user. i dont use POI's or low bridge warnings nor do i use it for a living to get me around. i personally prefer 6.75 map but dunno what others think.

if some one need help on pda TT7 will try my best as i am using it for more then 3 months now.

mates any one pm me with a location to dl Western_and_Central_Europe_V720_1803 pls

I downloaded v7 with map, so I assume the correct map

ID=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland.pna
586693554
720
build=1802
id=166868

is the map appearing in tomtom home on your pc? or just POI's?

Has this bit been done:

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

actually few other things to check:

what device is it?
tomtom installed on internal memory or storage card?

things to do: disable bluetooth file explorer.
also, try recopying the map into the card after deleting it.
