Hi

Fitted Argon and all was well but now i just get the disc error and cannot even eject disc. Have removed power to chip and same problem.

Disc is stuck in ??

Whats wrong

is the disk spinning when u power up.

if not, then something may have shorted when wii put together (or just after)

if there isn`t any power to the drive at all (or controller board), u need to remove argon installation, clean up board and check for solder splashes.
also do a continuity check on the 2 fuses (they are marked with an 'N' )

if the fuses are blown - don`t just bridge them... they are there for a reason.

regards
jase

After your install did you cover chip with tape
also if you just remove the power from the Argon it will still not work
but first check your ground wire is ok to the chip
if the ground, ok it like jase has said remove the lot have a good clean up and see if the wii works without the chip first.

Have done quite a few of these now without ANY probs, the last two i have done have been giving me all sorts of weird problems.

The only difference is that i have updated the chips from 1.3 to 1.8.

I solder them using the VIA points as i found them easy and very secure connection.

Think i may just have to remove chip totally.

I just find it strange it will not play originals and there are no shorts/splashes.

When powering Wii on with orig disc in, it spins up for a second with blue light on chip flickering, then stops and just sits as if no disc is present and you cannot eject...Or sometimes will give disc read error- reset console etc...

Not happy.

Have you tried removing the 4 region wires and give the orginal game ago

Yes try this because thats exactly what happened to me on one of my installs. Worked okay without 4 region wires but wouldn't load any disk with them. Resoldered and it work fine so was a dodgey connection.

Removed the 4 region free wires and it i played fine for about 8 hours or so.

Now giving DRE and will not play anything, will remove chip and install onto the legs.

Or might leave existing wiring in place and solder to lgs also, anyone ever tried this ?

I know it will not solve a short problem but it would cure a dry joint/bad connection.

What you reckon, could do one by one and try to pinpoint which connection is the problem...

I would remove it and start again I would put the chip in the middle of baord as in this
pic
argon-d2c-wii-position.jpg

as when you put the chip on the side you can have alot of pressure pushing down on the drive baord
as this is where the wii ribbon cable folds down
you will have to put a bit more double sided tape on the back of the one side of the Argon chip so its level
if you play your console with the lid off and it work fine as there is not so ,much pressure pulling down this will confirm this

I always put it in the middle anyway BUT there is still pressure there when i screw the board back down (i use the VIA's on the bottom) because i use that super strong double sided tape but leave one layer on.

Might just try removing it and using thin wig tape to secure.

Just had it back off mate so will have a play with it later and let you know how i get on.

The soldering looks/checks out perfect, all flux cleaned up and zero splashes.

OK. Just powered it up , still all boxed. Taken original Wii sports but does not show in the main or disc menu.

Ejected it OK, will open up now and see if it works while open.

UPDATE -

Just opened up replaced thick tape on back chip with normal insulation tape (no pressure on board, checked/redone all connections, leaving the 4 region free off).

Put original disc in would not see it, DRE error screen. Rebooted with disc in drive and booted fine, watching the blue LED flickining away.

Removed disc put different orig in, started spinning up, now just sitting there with blue LED constant ON and showing no disc in menu ????

Ejected disc and blue led still constant ON. As it is now no matter what disc i put in the led in on constant and the drive does nothing...

Strange.

Don't know whether to try a 1.3 or solder to pins ?
