Free (kind of) WIFI booster...

Yeah I did this a few months ago with some tin foil and it does work.

Well it seemed to anyway, it worked for about a week before I lost the connection alltogether.

I was nicking my neighbours from across the road and I put some foil around my USB wifi device which was on an extended cable, we could not pick anything up at first so I put some tin foil around hte back of it and put it in the window to catch any rays that are coming over our way.

I got a signal and had one for over a week, but eventually I lost it and could not get a signal anywhere near my house, I had to go to the front grden gate, lol. Or gatecrash his front room and get drunk with him while browsing, which was not a bad thing to be honest.

I was wondering if there would be any benefit in tin foil on the wall behind the router, assuming you don't want the signal to go that way? Or does it only work as this contraption is actually on the antenna?

you could makean home made cantenna !! i watched this program ages ago and the idea for a cantenna came from africa , there are alot of hills and they we`r tryn to figure out a way to get the signal from hosipital to hospital ,, any way the signal go in a circular motion so they got an old tin of large bake beans put an hole in the bottom and poked the antenna through it ,, then aimed it in the direction of the other one and hey presto (probably with a bit more modification i think ) they made a connection ,,
Hence the name CAN-TENNA i was toying with the idea of doing this with my wifi as its not good and only nxt bedroom !! i thought a small tit of sweetcorn would be about the right size lol
not tried it yet but be my guest anyone and let me know how you get on lol

Yes there is benefit of the foil on the wall behind the router, but only if you are wanting to divert the signal in one direction.

If you have anything connecting behind the foil then you may see a drop in connection levels. Everything in front of the foil should see a gain, within reason of course.

A very long video to explain smtg simple.

I use an aluminium plate. Take a look:

just tried it with a wireless usb dongle and it got me better results, still can't connect to the school beside me though, 24% signal but can't actually connect :(

How about routers without any antena, is there any way to boost their signal strength.

Thanks
