Hi Folks

I've had a HTPC for years now and it has served its needs down through the years. Now though with spotify/netflix/iptv available directly on smart TVs i'm finding i'm using it less and less.

Anybody else experiencing the same? Is it time to ditch for a simple android box?

I ditched mine for an Nvidia shield over 2 years ago and never looked back

Same here. Nvidia shield was one of the best decision i made. I use it in con****ion with a Synology NAS and Plex media server.

Further more i use Shield as a player with my Dreambox sat-tv over IP so i can watch TV in my home theater.

But i do have a UHD Player

I used to have an HTPC as well.
Mainly for streaming movies from NAS. It is true that almost all TV's can decode mkvs via usb, but the nice "look and feel" that you can get with sw like Kodi or Plex is not achievable by any Smart TV.
Now I use an android TVbox (Minix Neo-U1) and I'm happy with it.
Ciao

Sony Bravia runs on android...

But I would as mentioned above get a Nvidea Shield, it smashes the COMP!!!

I used to have asrock ht330 which had kodi on Ubuntu but stopped using that after I got the amazon fire tv.

As it's a single box with all the apps I need. I want a nvidia shield but waiting for a good deal.

I use the Vero 4K for all my "HTPC" needs in my dedicated home theatre. For general viewing elsewhere in the house I have 2 x Firestick 4Ks. Today you still need a relatively powerful PC to match the video playback of a good SoC-based solution.
