Hi has anybody else on here got a dji i love mine and wouldnt be without now the pics and videos you can get from these are amazing..west yorkshire

@quickshot I have the Advance model, get some great footage with it

@mick they are really hard to crash tbh, I flew mine straight out the box first time ever, the GPS holds it steady as a rock and the "fly home" button gives you confidence to go a bit further knowing it will fly back if it looses signal

here's a couple of good vids

I saw a program where they was fishing with these drones, special arm that releases the hook / fly at the right spot...

or you can just fly drugs into prisons... that's on the news allot!

Was thinking about buying one just for fun.
My guess is i will just use it for a couple of days and then it will stay on the shelf for some time.
Are you using it frequently ?

That's more or less what's happened to mine lol! Had mine (P3A) a year and a half, probably 20 flights total. BUT I love it! Image quality is reasonably good (stills and video) and range is far better than makers claim- which is unusual these days.
DJI are constantly releasing new models so prices on out-going models drop like lead bricks so if you don't need the latest & greatest a bargain can be had.

I bought a Phantom 3 Standard last October, was pleased with it but found that the range wasn't too good. I got around 1.5km on Ainsdale beach. We took it with us to the USA in December when we drove all the way up Route 66 and then onto Niagra Falls for new year.

I was well dissapointed with the range but got some great footage non-the-less.

I did buy a 15db flat panel antenna which gives great results but way too bulky for traveling.

Any way I bought a Mavic Pro last month and straight out of the box I got much much further from our garden than the 300m I could get with the Phantom 3.

The Advanced and Professional models of the Phantom 3 have a far, far greater distance and height range due to DJI Lightbridge technology which is not present on the Standard model

One other thought @Captin, you did take it out of "learner mode" ? this mode restricts height and distance for the beginner

I did know that at the time but I didn't want to pay the price for those at the time.

The first thing I did was ditch "learner mode" :)

The guy who made the flat panel antenna I bought has video's of him using it with a Phantom 3 Standard and getting 10 miles on a one way trip with a battery mod on the craft.

But the Mavic Pro has a greater range than all the Phantoms even the Phantom 4 pro.

I didn't realise the Mavic's range was that much better- is battery life improved too? It is always my worry that going too far out could exhaust the battery before it got home, especially if fighting a head wind on the way back.
I've never tested mine to either limit but am happy with what it can do.
Here's a video I made earlier this year, about 1.5km out as the drone flies- and I was on the ground.

(Sorry about the sound track lol!)

The battery is very slightly improved on the Mavic, but the price for the batteries is lower too.

My video editing skill are pretty crap so I dont have much on youtube.

Heres a pic from my healthydrones log. This is one of my latest Mavic flights.

This is the best I could get with the Phantom 3 at the same spot.

And this is with the Phantom 3 Standard on Ainsdale Beach

great vids bronto, quick price check on amazon and was expecting double the price.
interesting comment below the second vid, guy from the uk is saying he is limited to a distance of 500m.

The Phantom 3 Advanced has a range of 3.5km (in the UK, same as the Phantom 3 Pro) according to DJI. I think the guy may have been in beginner mode if he's only getting 500m.

Incidentally the range limits are set by the GPS and not hard encoded into firmware.

On a recent trip to the US in December 2016 I got quite a bit more range with my Phantom 2 Standard than I do back here in the UK.

I can't wait till my next trip though and I can see what my Mavic can do as It's pretty good here in the UK. DJI state 4km here in the UK.

I use the Litchi app so I can easily setup a autonomous flight and don't even need to have the remote connected, you can do the same with the Phantoms. Just plot point on a map and then tell it to fly. It will take off, fly the route and then land again.

I've seen a vid on youtube where a guy set his Phantom 3 Standard to fly to his work place which was 6km and then he got into his car and drove there waiting for the craft to arrive then he connected the remote and it landed.

right Captin probably learner mode then, makes sense at the prices.
i was thinking it would have been some sort of inbuilt software restriction possibly to do with air space, wouldn't have surprised me in the uk.

All the DJI products have built in restrictions and no fly zones, these are updated when the drone is updated, this is worldwide.

If the drone detects you are in a no fly zone it will not take off. If, like me, you live close to a no fly zone you have to acknowledge and agree to terms even to fly in you back garden and everytime too.

DJI have also done some updates for the Phantom 4 & mavic drones where you have to actually be signed into your DJI account before you fly, if you don't sign in you are restricted to 30m high and 500m distance. means I have to open DJIgo4 before I use litchi (I don't like DJIgo4 as it's very limited).
