C scope is a good brand to go for in my opinion, I have purchased two and have no complaints, I have not found much but that's another story.

Found a few old coins at weekend C scope detector
found a fair few bottle caps aswell however
not found a treasure chest yet but recommend C scope detector all the same .

got him a garrett 250 kit and a cheap pin pointer so will see what he finds

I would like to have a shot of metal detecting some time. I was speaking to a lad in the pub last weekend who had been up in a field near me where a Biker Rally is held every year , (has been for many years) They all camp out in tents for the weekend , beer tent , stage with bands etc. He reckons him and his father in law found over £300 in 4 hrs in the morning when I saw him.

"C scope is a good brand" - I did not use, but my friend has been using for more than two years, he likes.

You can even build one with a 555 timer chip and some coils and of course a buzzer to indicate detection. The logic of this circuit is this, frequency of 555 timer output can be set with a voltage divider using resistors and inductors and capacitors. Inductance of coil will change with a metal object beneath it so the frequency and amplitude of the sound will change.
