Ok so as per my custom lamp lighting project here: http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/hobby-room-658/396790-bespoke-custom-light-project.html

Im looking to incorporate a in-line switch into the wiring..

I have 2 switches, and looking to see which is more suitable..

The first is a 6amp torpedo switch, which Live and neutral connections...

The second is a single pole, 2amp torpedo switch. The switch has 2 gold screws, which im assuming the live wire gets cut and bare wire into each screw... (Im also assuming you switch on the live connection, and the earth and neutral connections run through the channel on the side of the switch)

can anyone here advise and correct me if needed? :)

many thanks

Bryan

Thanks Mick. What are the correct BS numbers?

Just had a look and none off the switches I have, have got BS numbers on them

I did get the 2a one from b&Q though, and is CE marked?

would the 2amp switch be ok for 3 x 50w GU10 bulbs?

Watts/volts = amps
if you are using 240 volts then 150/240 = .625 Amps

thanks smoggie. ill stick with the 2amp one then

I'd have preferred switching both the live and neutral. Sometimes sockets aren't wired correctly or the neutral is a few volts above ground.

The 2amp one is ok as it is double pole. its only the 6amp switch which is single

says it is only compatible with 2 core value. I have 3 core.

you just run the live and neg tho the switch and keep the earth whole if you get that
will work just the same

Would be great if I can find an internal shot of it to see if it has a channel for the earth

doesn't look like there is room for the earth

A review on amazon states this:

Keep in mind it is intended for 2 core cables only. If your light has a 3 core cable, you can run an earth wire along the inside to connect the input and output earth wires together but you should ONLY do this is if you know what you are doing or else get an electrician to help you.
