Can anyone recommend some weekend hobbies? Truth be told, apart from pottering about with computers etc, i don't really have any other hobby. My weekend consists of frying my head with stimulants, then feeling like one of the living dead, the following day. :(
This nonsense has been going on for 20 years and needs stopping before it stops me.

Cheers,

Dar

What about geocaching or mountain biking. I think you need something out of the house with fresh air. None have to be too energetic.

Quite hard to recommend something like this without knowing ones demeanor or character really.

Go-Karting requires fitness/stamina and general fitness if you want to take an interest in it...i do karting a lot and i do love it so i would recommend it to anyone.

Mountain Biking i also love but again you need fitness and have to be energetic unless someone drives you to the top of a mountain...thats now called downhill mountain biking..still need to be considerably energetic tho!

Oh, I don't know. I've just serviced my bike, had a 60th birthday and getting my miles up. Just back from a 10 mile country lane run. When I'm back up to about 30 miles on the flat I'll take a look at some off-road work. I'll be doing some walking too :)

My experience is that if people find out you've nothing much to do, they're always happy to fill the vacuum.

If you're that way inclined, there's plenty of volunteer work in our "big "society".:Biggrin2:

I keep marine fish, it's very relaxing to watch :)

But it does not keep me out of the pub :( ...
@IANB likes caravanning

It's a good idea to get yourself a hobby, your on the right track pal

How will the Government get the unemployment figures down if you keep giving people ideas like this for a hobby ? : shocked2 ;)

Seriously though, along the lines of what Mick has said has keeping a pet ever crossed your mind ? Fish can be one of the easier options although tropical and or marine fish tend to be a bit more time consuming and at times expensive. Birds, again depending on what particular breed can be rewarding although the likes of Caiques, Parrots, Cockatoos and Macaws really need a bit of knowledge and a lot of time and interaction and of course they are usually very expensive to start with. Reptiles, a bit of research and the right equipment and they can be a great option with many, many types and options to choose from.
Then of course there is the Cat or Dog route, but particularly with a Dog you will need to devote a reasonable amount of time with them and ensure they are properly looked after, but the rewards of having any pet that is looked after properly are brilliant, because they will give so much back to you. @dar1437 if you give an idea of the sort of thing that appeals to you or even suggesting the sort of things you would like you hobby to include (such as you would like some of the time to be outside, something active/not too active, money no object/funds very restricted etc.) then I'm sure someone on here will be able to suggest a really apt and suitable to you, be it Fishing, Caravanning, Skydiving, Pet Keeping or whatever.............................your requirements of what it should include are the only boundaries !!

I've recently got into Astrophotography and after a 30yr break started making model kits again.Like others have said,I've also started riding my bike, gets you out and about.

I fly falcons..Out in the fields all winter with the summer off for breeding or the moult..Love it!!!!

What i really need is something to occupy me from noon on saturday, till around mid evening. Also from 4pm on friday till again mid evening. (the withdrawal/anxiety lifts after around 7pm)

Thinking of walking up Pen Y Fan (highest peak in Brecon Beacons South Wales) that should do the trick tomorrow. It'll be the highest i've ever been without taking something.

Cheers again people. :)

i don't think you're going about this the right way.

you need to have a think about what stuff interests you and expand it out into a hobby.

otherwise, whatever you try might feel more like a chore than a hobby.. :)

Join the T.A.I will be happy to give you some pointers.

Thanks again for the ideas :)

P.S. the mountaineering has been put on hold due to it fcuking lashing down. :)

Think the P.S. suggests that outdoor activities aren't realistic long term. So indoor hobbies such as fish keeping, or a pet bird seem more likely. Not to everybodies liking but have you ever tried a jigsaw puzzle or perhaps model making ? they keep the mind occupied and can be done on a modest budget.
