53 years old and last excersised at school in PE (i'm not proud of it)

Would one of these be better,as good as or worse than an excercise bike?

For personal reasons outdoor excersising is not an option.

I'm open to other suggestions...

Cheers

If you won't be exercising outside theres no point in going for a trainer Unless you have a comfy saddled bike already go for a purpose built exercise bike.

What about a wii fit or something as an alternative.

RE the comfy saddle, i thought the bicycle may be better for comfort and larger 'pedal turns' for want of a better phrase.

wii fit is something i haven't thought about before...good idea..

Thanks

I'd suggest checking your local gumtree, should be able to pick up an exercise bike pretty cheap. See how you get on with that for a few months.
HH.

Same advise, check gumtree, ebay and free-cycle for an exercise bike.

If you are buying then get one with magnetic flywheel is better than the ones that are friction based.

Also if you have problems sitting on a saddle then recumbent bike might be better. They take up more space but are more comfortable,

Finally, I would suggest a good rowing machine over a bike, gives a better all round workout.

I disagree, buy a bike and get out on it! Easier to motivate yourself when out riding with the wind in your face.
Go for a hybrid rather than a road/MTB and send £300+.
Otherwise the exercise bike will just gather dust.

OP said no outdoors otherwise I would say the same thing. Get outside, even if its just walking or joining a class.

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I knew i'd get some sensible replies on Digital worldz... that's why I lke it here...

After reading the comments here and a phone chat with my GP,i'll be trawling through Gumtree for a rowing machine and exercise bike..

Thanks again chaps...

Just be careful with the rowing machine. Make sure you are using a safe action, its easy for people starting out to get lazy and injury their back. Don't focus on speed or power to begin with, take it easy the first couple of times and mentally focus on your rowing action.

I also found that I got a better workout with the type that use air resistance rather than some sort of friction system. Will warn you that they are noisy.

The youtube video is great,it explains what i need to know as a starter..

I was planning to go by minutes to start with.. say 5 mins max at a time... x amount of times a day to start with, and as you say get the rowing action right..
Thanks for your help... it is appreciated.
