Hi Guys,

Maybe yee can help

I recently purchased some items through e-bay and payed buy bank transfer. Everything went smoothly and I received the items in good working order.

I have emailed the seller and asked him if he had more to sell. He said yes and gave me his new bank details.

I asked him would he put them on e-bay he said that e-bay charges too much and i could just buy them from him outside off e-bay.

The value of the goods are €1,250 so i am reluctant just to transfer cash to some guys account and hope the items arrive.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to how best to proceed outside of e-bay?

He is based in Germany and I am in Ireland so there are some language barriers aswell

Thanks

The answer might be an Escrow provider

If the seller won't accept EBay charges, can you agree with him on a compromise (higher) BIN price in which you effectively pay (say) half the Ebay fees. That would keep the deal "legit".

Alternatively you could try finding an Escrow provider. That means a trusted and neutral 3rd party company you pay, he ships to you and when you are happy with the goods you inform Escrow company and they pay seller. Of course the catch might be that their fees are same as EBays. And he may not agree to the third party company anyway.

I agree with your reluctance to send money and hope.

Any other ideas anyone

PS you can pay people by Paypal if they have an account and without using EBay. I don't know that you get any protection from Paypal in that case though.

I sent him an email asking him would he entertain an escrow service. I suggetsed www.escrow.com - ebay recommend them.

I should hopefully have a response tomorrow. ill keep yee posted.

Any other ideas are welcome!!!

Find EBay Fees

You could try calculating the EBay fees by going to the relevant EBay page (xxx.de or xxxx.ie??)

or try
h**p://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html

Then at leasat you will know how much his costs are if you are going to suggest splitting the EBay costs.

does he have a shop? and can you pay on your credit card? if you could Im sure your credit card would cover you?

I agree, does he have a shop at all or is it personal items you are purchasing from him?

If he has a VAT registered company for instance your credit card company will have no reason not to reinburse you if things go to pot with the transaction.

Gather some more details from him before you hand over the dosh

Cheers for all the feedback guys.

After looking at his feedback from his 502 other buyers revising his ebay page and taking into account my previous good purchase with this guy and some funny emails back and forth i decided to throw caution to the wind and opted to purchase outside of ebay via bank transfer.

Jesus - feels like a one nite stand without a condom :)

Ill let yee know how i get on....hope to fcuk im not cursing myself next week.

personally speaking i wouldnt go within a hundred miles of it if the purchase was outside of ebay in these circumstances especially for that amount.
maybe for a small purchase i would throw caution to the wind but for 1250 euros not a chance.

hope you have no trouble for your sake.

Get him to setup an auction on ebay for 1p BUY IT NOW and make the P&P costs the amount of the sale, i.e. 1.2k. You pay fees on the listing price and final auction price...not on the P&P. ;)
