hi all,i dont want to start a debate on religon or anything like that.i would just like some info if anyone has any.
what it is , my nice aged 15,has just joined a church 3weeks ago. and she says its a baptis church,oh by the way her mam and dad arnt bothered about her.anyway ,a week ago she got baptised .the one where they push you in a tub of water .which i thort was strange cos as i said she is only 15 and she never had any consent of her perants { is this normal in these chucrhs} .and on sunday she went to the pasters house for pizza with him and his wife {is this normal} . so 2night i went to have a look at this church.and all it has is a crappy little sign outside it saying the name of the church , but it dosent say anything like ,times, dates ect like normal churchs have .

i dont want to go in feet first, and i know nothing about religon.thats why iwould like to know if all this is normal .in these baptis churchs.
or should alarm bells be ringing

thanks for any info
dave

i have already looked there mate ,and basicly it tells you to go and have a look on the board outside the church and see what they call them selfs but as i said there is no board.so i am a bit puzzled at the min in what to do next.
thanks anyway mate

Maybe if you go with her to one of their meetings it might show them that someone is concerned and if they are dodgy they may back off

go up and ask them what there all about if you think it sounds dodgy , considering that your neice is a minor then i think the only thing you can do is report it to social services. although i doubt it'll do much good
if her parents arent interseted i dont know what else to suggest to be honest

a bit of a sticky situation, cos i did ring her up yesterday ,while she was at this church, asking her some qusetions about this and basicly she said i was daft and nothing dodgy was going on. but i am still not convinced.and like i said i dont what to go in feet first .all this might be normal .and what i know about religon u can write on the back of a stamp

tbh, a lot of the smaller churches do work like you've described. They tend to go out of their way to make new members feel like part of the church family and its very common for members to socialise outside of the church setting.

If you have any suspicions though then check them out. Try to find out if its a free church (informal type) or an accredited church (has a hierarchy - bishops etc). If its baptist it will likely have some form of hierarchy and you should be able to find out quite a lot of info about it.

Ask your niece why she has chosen that particular church. The answer may give you a clue as to what is going on !

All I know is that religion is based around lies and bullshit..

With no real proof, what is there to believe?

Some priests in small parishes are good. My old one used to come round my house every week. He used to visit nearly everyone. He was a very nice one.

What a decent bloke you are for showing such concern.

Go see the pastor and tell him you are anxious to ensure your niece's welfare. If he is genuine he will be pleased to reassure you. You need to know the name of the church; what church it is affiliated to; who is the bishop or similar figure overseeing the local folk. If you get these details then you can see if it is a cult.
Look on the bright side. If it is a proper church, she is hopefully meeting good role models. Whatever you think of religion, it is usually better than drugs etc.

If its a good priest he will welcome you and maybe even ask you to come join them. Maybe because she was new he was just welcoming her into the parish.

There have been some useful and supportive replies in this thread, but this isn't one of them.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I am going to go on Sunday to see what is going on!!! i shall keep u all informed on whats going on.

thanks dave

Is it in a village or town?

I grew up in villages and also went to churches. We did socialise outside of church too, but not to the extent of going around for pizza. However I don't think nowadays you can be too careful. I went to a church youth club type thing in the evenings and Saturday helped with fetes and jumble sales. Then of course on Sunday mornings we went to church. Sunday School! :)

As others have said go along and see for yourself the other types of people who go, what they do and how they do it. Even speak to the Vicar you might find they are just genuinely friendly. It does seem odd to me that she was "Baptised" in the manner you describe without consent from a parent or gaurdian. But maybe they are just doing this to make her feel part of the group. TBH if it was my son I would be round there like a shot, so you are not alone. Hope everything goes well, and if it is I suppose it's better than what most 15 year olds get upto nowadays!

Bear in mind, you may still be in the dark when you come out. As she may have spoken to the pastor in confidence.

So you might not draw the right conclusions about why she is there. :)

Hope all goes well ,and as suggested by Majestic, your concern is to be applauded.

In my limited experience with a church, I found they were all lovely people. But driven by money.
